The Oregon Brass Society (OBS) is honored and excited to announce the return of an extremely popular Eugene tradition-- a Sunday evening concert in Washburne Park tomorrow, Sunday, June 15th at 6:30pm. As many may remember, concerts were regularly held during the summer months from 1988 through 2019 until the COVID Pandemic forced the termination of the concert series. Jointly sponsored by the City of Eugene and Pacific Winds, the concert in the park series featured 10-12 of the area's best ensembles and enjoyed great success with large audiences.

The concert tomorrow evening is just one, sponsored by OBS. But they hope to encourage other groups to join in the future, and, perhaps, to show the City of Eugene that concerts in the park are a good way to foster and build community. As in past years, the concert will begin at 6:30 PM and is free to the public.

The Oregon Brass Society was formed in Eugene as a “British-style” brass band, building upon the rich heritage and 200-year-old tradition of brass bands in the United Kingdom. OBS is the only such brass band in Oregon and one of a handful in the Pacific Northwest. OBS Musical Director Olin Hannum is an American composer based in the Willamette Valley and Associate Director of Bands at Oregon State University.

So, bring a picnic dinner and favorite beverages or just your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an hour of great music from Oregon's only British-style brass band tomorrow evening at 6:30pm in Washburne Park!

Hi folks, my cat, Pepper, has been missing for about 5 days now from Spring Blvd and Madrona Dr in the Fairmount/Hendricks Park area of Eugene. She’s an indoor/outdoor cat, about 2 years old, with black medium-length fur. She has a collar and tag and she’s microchipped. She’s never been away from home this long and I’m especially worried about her as we head in to this 100+ degree heat wave 😔 Please let me know if you see her. Thank you! 💕🐈‍⬛ 541-554-1153

Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST) is planning a Franklin Boulevard Walking Tour this Thursday morning, July 27th, at 9:30am to see the conditions there first hand related to the City of Eugene's plans to transform Franklin Boulevard. They will meet outside of UO Transportation Services at 1401 Walnut Street on Franklin Boulevard. They recommend that you wear sunscreen and bring water.

Take a short online survey (with a chance to win a Market of Choice gift certificate) at: https://www.best-oregon.org/better-streets/franklin/ Before reaching conclusions on what makes sense on Franklin Boulevard, BEST wants to hear all points of view.

Please share with your fellow neighbors so BEST can learn your experiences BEFORE the City of Eugene makes any changes. Already, BEST has received 300 responses, initially from people on the UO campus. Now they are reaching out to people along Franklin and in the surrounding neighborhoods.

If you cannot make it to this week's walking tour, they are looking into scheduling another one next Thursday, August 3rd, at a time in the late afternoon to be determined. We'll send more details when the time firms up.
