Railroad Crossing Closure – Safety Notice
***Issue Resolved***

The railroad crossing at 8th Avenue and Albany Street in Erie is currently stuck in the down position. The tracks at this location are ACTIVE, and trains may approach at any time.

🚫 Do NOT drive around the lowered crossing arms. Doing so is extremely dangerous and illegal.

Please use one of the three other railroad crossings in the village until this issue is resolved.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as crews work to address the problem. Your safety and the safety of others depends on it.

***Service Anniversary***

Today, we proudly recognize Chief Brian Hawk for nine years of dedicated service to the Erie Police Department. His leadership, commitment, and devotion to protecting and serving our community have made a meaningful and lasting impact.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Hawk has proudly served the Village of Erie with tireless dedication. Despite the demands of administrative responsibilities, he continues to lead the department forward and position it for continued success.

Highlights of his service include:

• Elevating National Night Out (NNO) into a highly successful community event, drawing record attendance and increasing awareness throughout the Village of Erie
• Overseeing the transition to a new fleet of Chevy Tahoes, modernizing department operations
• Implementing a Drone/UAS Program to enhance public safety efforts
• Recently receiving the Lifesaving Award from the Erie Fire Protection District, among many other accomplishments

In addition to these achievements, Chief Hawk has remained steadfast in ensuring the department stays current with evolving law enforcement standards, policies, and best practices. He has prioritized ongoing employee training and professional development, which is essential to effective policing.

DUIs Are NOT a Victimless Crime, remember to drive safe this Thanksgiving!!

Every year, impaired driving destroys lives.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk-driving crashes claim over 13,000 lives annually in the United States.

These aren’t statistics—they’re families, friends, and neighbors whose lives are changed forever because someone chose to drive impaired.

As we continue to prioritize safety in our community, the Erie Police Department reminds everyone:

🔹 Plan a sober ride—use a designated driver, rideshare, taxi, or call a friend.
🔹 Report impaired drivers—you could save a life.
🔹 Never let someone you care about get behind the wheel impaired.

Our officers will remain vigilant in keeping Erie’s roads safe. Impaired driving is a choice—with real victims and real consequences.

Let’s all do our part to prevent the next tragedy.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world.”~ Mr. Rogers
