People's Park is a beautiful Victorian park based in the centre of Grimsby. It was opened in 1883, with the land being donated by Lord Heneage. William Barron won a competition to design the park and this design - called Semper Paratus, meaning 'always prepared' - is still mostly intact today. People's Park was registered by English Heritage as a park of Special Historic Interest in 2000 and benef

ited from just under £3m of Heritage Lottery funding in 2008 to bring it back to its former splendour. Further funding from the Playbuilder Scheme meant a new play area, based on the layout of a Grimsby Trawler, was installed in April 2011. A bowls green and croquet lawn can also be found on site, available for use between May and September.

Have you thought to share and/or forge links with Grimsby in Bloom as over the years they gained a lot of Park Ward funding. I’m sure they’ll be happy to support as the ‘In bloom’ team or know of others who might wish to volunteer an hour or so.

Friends of People’s Park no longer exists as sadly they dissolved due to lack of support and people not wishing to get involved sone years ago.
