One of the things I enjoy most is learning about innovative ideas that are making a difference in other communities.

Recently, I spent some time looking at the work being done by Marcus Carpenter, a fellow Jimtown graduate, through Route 1.

Their focus on developing local food systems, supporting emerging farmers, creating economic opportunity, and increasing access to healthy food has me thinking about what opportunities might exist here in Elkhart.

As our city continues to grow, I believe we should always be exploring creative ways to connect economic development, workforce development, youth engagement, education, and community health.

I am still learning more about the model, but I believe conversations like these are important. Sometimes the next great idea for our city starts with simply asking, "What is working elsewhere, and how can we adapt it to fit Elkhart?"

I'm looking forward to learning more and hearing your thoughts.

Sunday Lesson:

Leadership Requires Wisdom

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Proverbs 4:7

A leader's greatest asset is not power, money, or position. It is wisdom.
Power without wisdom can become reckless. Money without wisdom can be wasted. Position without wisdom can be misused.

Wisdom helps leaders see beyond the moment, understand people, make sound decisions, and navigate difficult challenges with clarity and humility.

That is why Scripture calls wisdom the principal thing. Before seeking influence, seek wisdom. Before demanding answers, seek understanding.

Strong leadership is not measured by how much authority a person has. It is measured by how wisely they use it.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Meet & Connect event at Gateway Winery. It was an incredible evening filled with great conversations, thoughtful ideas, and a shared commitment to the future of Elkhart.
I am grateful for every person who took the time to attend, ask questions, share concerns, and offer encouragement.

Hearing directly from residents, business owners, community leaders, friends, and neighbors reinforces why this campaign matters. The future of Elkhart will be built by all of us working together.

A special thank you goes out to those who stepped forward and joined the Riley Heart for Growth team. Your willingness to volunteer, support, and invest your time and energy into this movement means more than you know. Campaigns are built on people who believe that positive change is possible, and your commitment helps move that vision forward.

This campaign is about bringing people together, building stronger neighborhoods, supporting local businesses, creating new opportunities, and making sure every part of Elkhart has a voice.

We are just getting started!

Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant Elkhart for future generations.
Thank you for your support, your trust, and your belief in what we can accomplish together.
