Today, the Elk City Fire Department was honored to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of our new fire station.

This facility represents much more than a new building. It is an investment in the future of public safety in Elk City and will serve as a home for generations of firefighters who will answer the call to protect our community.

We were grateful to have Mayor Micah Kilhoffer and State Representative Nick Archer join us and share remarks recognizing the significance of this project. We were also pleased to welcome community members, local leaders, and supporters who took time out of their day to celebrate this milestone with us.

Projects of this magnitude are only possible through the vision, support, and commitment of many individuals. We extend our appreciation to everyone who played a role in bringing this station from concept to reality.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the new fire station and see firsthand how this facility will enhance our ability to serve the citizens of Elk City for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we celebrated this important day in the history of the Elk City Fire Department.

Last night, we had the privilege of gathering to honor the retirement of Lieutenant Darren Murray.

Darren dedicated many years of service to the Elk City Fire Department and completed an impressive 28-year career in the Oklahoma fire service. Throughout his career, he was a trusted leader, mentor, and friend who was always just a phone call away. His experience, commitment, and wealth of knowledge have made a lasting impact on our department and the firefighters who have had the opportunity to serve alongside him.

Current and retired Elk City firefighters, along with Darren’s family and friends, joined us to celebrate this significant milestone and recognize a career devoted to serving others.

On behalf of the Elk City Fire Department, thank you, Darren, for your years of dedication, professionalism, and service to our community. We wish you and your family all the best as you begin this well-earned chapter of retirement.

The Elk City Fire Department would like to extend a special thank you to the Phillips Family McDonald’s for serving as the chief sponsor of our upcoming Blazing Greens Golf Tournament. Their continued support of our department and community means a great deal to all of us, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership in helping make this event possible.

We would also like to thank every sponsor, team, and community member who signed up and supported this year’s tournament. Because of your generosity and participation, all team spots have officially been filled, and we are looking forward to an outstanding day on the course tomorrow.

Our crews have been working hard behind the scenes getting everything ready to go, and we are excited to host what promises to be a fun-filled event for everyone involved. TTS/Cudd will be providing lunch during the tournament, and we will also have plenty of prizes and giveaways throughout the day.

Events like the Blazing Greens Golf Tournament would not be possible without the tremendous support we receive from our local businesses, sponsors, and community members. We truly appreciate everyone who has helped make this event a success before the first golf ball is even teed off.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and enjoying a great day of golf, fellowship, and community support.

This week, we recognize and celebrate EMS Week 2026 and the dedicated men and women who answer the call every day to provide emergency medical care to our community.

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the teamwork that exists between EMS, fire service, law enforcement, dispatchers, hospitals, and all other healthcare partners who are all working toward one common goal: providing the best possible care when people need it most.

Whether it’s a life-threatening emergency, a serious accident, or helping someone through one of their worst days, our paramedics and EMTs are there 24 hours a day with compassion, professionalism, and skill.

We are incredibly proud of our personnel and thankful for the commitment they show to this community each and every shift.

Please join us this week in recognizing all EMS professionals for the work they do behind the scenes and on the front lines to help keep our communities safe.

Today is shaping up to be another active weather day across our area.

During the daytime hours, we are expected to see dangerous fire weather conditions with strong winds, low humidity, and very dry fuels. Even a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving grass or brush fire.

Please help us reduce the risk by:
• Avoiding any outdoor burning
• Properly disposing of ci******es
• Securing chains and equipment that may create sparks
• Avoiding parking vehicles in tall dry grass
• Using extra caution with welding or outdoor equipment

As we move into the late afternoon, evening, and overnight hours, there is also the potential for severe weather across western Oklahoma. Conditions can change quickly, so now is a good time to make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and warnings.

Stay weather aware by:
• Monitoring trusted weather sources
• Keeping your phone charged and alerts turned on
• Having a plan if severe weather approaches
• Checking on family members, neighbors, and those who may need assistance

Our crews will be closely monitoring conditions throughout the day and night. We encourage everyone to stay alert, stay prepared, and use extra caution today.
