We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported our K9 fundraiser so far. The response from the community has been incredible, and we truly appreciate every donation, share, and word of encouragement.

Our K9 program plays a critical role in protecting our community—whether it’s tracking suspects, locating missing persons, or assisting in high-risk situations. With your continued support, we are working toward providing the resources and equipment needed to keep our K9 team ready for anything.

If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet, there’s still time. Every donation—no matter the size—helps us get closer to our goal. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing the fundraiser makes a big impact as well.

Thank you again for standing behind us and supporting your local K9 team.

The Eaton Police Department K9 Unit is asking for your generosity and continued support.

Last year’s fundraiser raised nearly $10,000, which allowed us to purchase K9 Kurt, secure certifications for both K9 Kurt and K9 Lyken, and obtain the essential equipment and resources needed to restart and rebuild our K9 program.

Since the program’s relaunch, both K9s have been actively deployed in a wide range of real-world operations, including narcotics interdiction, tracking wanted persons, locating critical evidence, and providing comfort and support during crisis situations.

Today, we are once again asking for your help. The K9 program is fully self-funded through donations and fundraising efforts. These funds directly support the ongoing care and readiness of our K9 partners. Following the significant initial investment to acquire and train both dogs, our fund has been depleted.

Your support ensures these K9s can continue serving our community safely and effectively.

What your donations will support:

- High-quality K9 food and nutritional needs
- Veterinary care and medical treatment
- Vet insurance and routine checkups
- Safety equipment and protective gear
- Training aids and operational equipment
- General upkeep to keep our K9s healthy, safe, and mission-ready

Every donation, no matter the size, directly contributes to the success and longevity of the Eaton Police Department K9 Unit.

If you would like to support the program, the Eaton Police Department K9 Unit has set up a GoFundMe to allow for easy and secure donations. All funds raised are deposited directly into the Town of Eaton K9 Fund and used exclusively to support the K9 program.

K9 Deployment 🐾

K9 Kurt was deployed today to assist DCSO on a traffic stop within Muncie. During a free-air sniff, Kurt gave a positive alert on the vehicle, leading to a probable cause search.

The search resulted in the seizure of multiple items of narcotic paraphernalia, and the driver is facing charges related to the find.

Great work by K9 Kurt—definitely earned some extra treats tonight! 🦴

🚔Recognizing the Legacy of EPD K9 Units 🐾

Today, we wanted to recognize and honor the service of K9 Bane and his handler, Former Chief of Police Andrew Storie.

K9 Bane proudly served the Town of Eaton from 2019 to 2025, standing alongside his handler to protect our community. During his career, Bane was certified in narcotics detection, subject apprehension, and patrol operations, making him a well-rounded and highly capable working dog.

Throughout his years of service, K9 Bane played a vital role in keeping our streets safe, assisting in criminal apprehensions, and supporting officers in high-risk situations and accounted for multiple drug seizures. His dedication, drive, and loyalty exemplified what it means to be part of the Eaton Police Department K9 unit.

K9 Bane was medically retired in 2025 after a surgery and is currently alive, well, and enjoying a well-earned retirement—exactly what every hardworking K9 deserves after years of faithful service.

Wishing K9 Bane a happy retirement. Thankful for his service!

Today, we pause to honor and remember K9 Yoki of the Marion Police Department. The Eaton Police K9 team was honored to take part in his es**rt, standing alongside multiple other handlers and officers.

Over the past several months, our K9 officers have had the privilege of training alongside Marion PD’s K9 unit. During that time, they worked with K9 Yoki and his handler, Officer Scott Fletcher—a truly strong and dedicated team.

Our thoughts are with Officer Fletcher, the Marion Police Department, and everyone who knew and loved Yoki.

Thank you for your service K9 Yoki!

Be sure to give Rocky a warm welcome as he begins his tour of duty alongside our incredible K-9 team!

Today, the Eaton Police Department K9 Team responded to a serious medical incident where children were present on scene. During the response, K9 Lyken was deployed in a therapy role to help comfort and support those involved.

Lyken was able to calmly engage with the child, providing a positive distraction and helping ease their stress while Fire and EMS personnel focused on treating the patient. His presence made a meaningful difference during a difficult situation.

This marked Lyken’s first deployment in a therapy capacity with the EPD, and he proved to be an incredible asset to our department and community.

We look forward to continuing to utilize K9 Lyken during critical incidents to help build rapport, provide comfort, and support those in need during challenging moments.

Great job, Lyken 🐾

🚔Recognizing the Legacy of EPD K9 Units 🐾

K9 Jerry Lee proudly served the Eaton Police Department for 8 years alongside his handler, Former Deputy Chief Chris Liggett. Imported from Belgium, Jerry Lee was a highly trained and certified dual-purpose K9 specializing in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, and suspect apprehension.

Throughout his career, Jerry Lee built a reputation that extended far beyond Eaton Indiana. Drug offenders across Ohio knew his name. On multiple occasions, suspects admitted they had seen news articles about arrests involving Jerry Lee and were hesitant to operate in our area because of him.

Jerry Lee assisted numerous agencies during his service, including:

Muncie Police Department
Delaware County
Blackford County
Hartford City
Dunkirk Police Department
Gaston Police Department
Albany Police Department
U.S. Marshals Service
Indiana State Police & M**h Team

Some of Jerry Lee’s most notable accomplishments include:

Assisting the U.S. Marshals Service in the apprehension of a federally wanted fugitive who refused to surrender and was located hiding under a bed.
Tracking and locating a shooting suspect who fled from Gaston and was found hiding inside a plastic container in Yorktown.
Assisting in the capture of multiple suspects involved in a stolen vehicle case in Blackford County, located hiding in a wooded area.
Conducting a narcotics seizure during a traffic stop in Eaton involving crack co***ne, methamphetamine, he**in, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.

Beyond law enforcement, Jerry Lee gave back to the community. He assisted the local organization Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary in fundraising efforts for homeless pets and was featured on Pet Pals TV with host Patty Spitler on Wish-TV an experience that remains one of the most memorable moments of our career.

He also played a key role in community outreach, participating in school demonstrations and public events, helping build trust and connection between law enforcement and the community.

But above all, Jerry Lee was a amazing partner and loved his family at home.

Jerry Lee passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer. He is deeply missed every single day.

Rest easy, Jerry Lee and thank you for your service.

🚓K9 Deployment Recap – Strong Work by Eaton Officers 🐾

On Friday evening, K9 Kurt and Lt. Guffy, K9 Lyken and Sgt Brooks, along with multiple Eaton Police Officers, conducted a saturation patrol focused on proactive enforcement and criminal deterrence within the town.

During the patrol, officers conducted a traffic stop on a non-Eaton resident. K9 Kurt was deployed and provided a positive indication on the vehicle. A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of multiple items of drug paraphernalia and illegal substances. The driver is facing charges related to those findings.

Later that night, Eaton K9 officers assisted a neighboring agency following a crash where suspects fled the scene on foot. Both K9 Kurt and K9 Lyken were deployed to conduct a track. K9 Kurt initiated the track, and K9 Lyken successfully picked it up, leading officers to the area where the suspects had fled.

Although the suspects had left the area in another vehicle prior to officers’ arrival, K9 Lyken and Sgt. Brooks were able to provide information that will assist in the ongoing investigation.

Great work by all officers and K9 teams involved. This is a strong example of teamwork, training, and commitment to keeping our communities safe. 💪🐾
