It’s been a few days since the election, and while this was not the outcome we wanted, I am so incredibly honored that my race against a well-entrenched and funded incumbent was so close this year. Given the fact my opponent received less than 50% of the vote and relied on the effects of a third-party spoiler candidate, the town board certainly needs to rethink the direction its heading if they want to regain public trust.
I want to thank my wife Elizabeth and two sons for dealing with the chaos of these past 9 months. I also want to thank my extended family and friend group for stepping in, I really could not have done this without the support of help of all of you, and it will not be forgotten. Huge shout out to Sydney and Emily, who were substantially more knowledgeable than me on all thing’s election focused and certainly have a lot to do with my momentum heading into Election Day. I also want to thank all the volunteers Huntington Democrats, as well as the groups which endorsed me – 1199 SEIU, 32BJ, CWA, the Sierra Club, and the Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Action Fund. Finally, I want to thank everyone who supported me in any way, whether that was taking a sign, knocking on your neighbor’s door, or even just casting your vote for me, every little bit helped this year. Thank you.
Congratulations to Jen Hebert for Huntington Town Council on her victory for town board and Legislator Rebecca Sanin, Jason Richberg, & Tom Donnelly on their re-election to the Suffolk County Legislature. I want to highlight Rebecca & Jen and their ongoing collaboration this year, it really felt like a team effort in a lot of ways, and I am so happy they were rewarded with convincing victories. The remainder of the slate – Stephen, Vincent & Craig - truly did an excellent job on this off-year election and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for each of them.
Since last week, a lot of you have reached out to me about the WFP candidate – Maria Delgado. While I was always aware that she was running only to pull votes away from Democratic line, I never expected that she would allege this was done without her knowledge or consent. While it is easy to say this cost me the election, the truth is we will never know what the results would have been without her on the ballot. The true victims this year are the 1,195 Huntington residents who case their votes for a candidate who was not even aware she was running. I hope the truth about this situation comes to light in the next few weeks, but it doesn’t change the outcome. In a year where I ran on a platform of transparency and accountability, urging people to distance themselves from party political agendas, this is an unfortunate ending.
I’m not sure what the future holds for me yet, but given the outcome, I think its evident I need to capitalize on the momentum. We have shown that Huntington is purple, and I hope this trend continues into 2026!
