Today's SGN (Some Great News)!

We are incredibly grateful and excited to announce that Rowdy Hall in Amagansett has selected East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue (EHVOR) and the Hampton Lifeguard Association (HLA) as the June beneficiaries of their "1% for the East End" community giving campaign.
For the entire month, Rowdy Hall will generously donate 1% of its revenue to help support our mission of water safety, lifesaving education, training, equipment, and community outreach programs. These funds will help offset the costs associated with lifeguard training, rescue equipment, the Junior Lifeguard Program, Little Nippers, and other initiatives that help keep our community safe in and around the water. EHVOR and HLA play a vital role in water safety education, lifeguard development, and year-round emergency response throughout East Hampton.
So let's eat, drink, and be merry—especially if you're dining out this month! Every meal enjoyed at Rowdy Hall helps support local organizations dedicated to protecting lives and strengthening our community.

🌊🚨 MEET THE MEMBER: CAMRYN HATCH 🚨🌊
From Junior Lifeguards to Ocean Rescue, Camryn Hatch has spent her life in and around the water, always ready to help when it matters most.
Cam joined Ocean Rescue because she saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community she loves while spending more time doing what she does best—being in the ocean.
“My favorite part of Ocean Rescue is the adrenaline rush when we hear the tone and jump into the truck or launch the ski.”
That training and dedication don’t stop when the uniform comes off. While studying abroad in Italy, Cam was visiting Malta when she heard a whistle from shore and immediately recognized someone in distress. Drawing on years of lifeguard and rescue training, she entered the water and helped rescue an exhausted swimmer who was struggling offshore. Proof that once you’re Ocean Rescue, you’re always Ocean Rescue. 🌎🌊
That extraordinary act of service and commitment to helping others earned Cam the prestigious Eddie Would Go Award following the 2025 season—an honor given to members who embody the spirit of selflessness, courage, and answering the call when others need help most.
Thank you, Cam, for representing Ocean Rescue wherever you go and for reminding us that service has no borders.

Spring training is in full swing
At the beginning of the month, we had the opportunity to train with the United States Coast Guard station in Montauk At our monthly meeting, we also held a first aid and tourniquet training led by Lt. Charlie Goldsmith.

It is with great sadness that our EHVOR family shares the loss of a dear friend, valued auxiliary member, and our dedicated EMS liaison and CPR instructor, Scott Barter.
Scott will be remembered for his generosity, commitment, and the countless hours he devoted to our organization. He played a vital role in organizing our annual CPR recertifications, always ensuring that every member was up to date, confident, and well prepared for the season ahead.
At drills and training sessions, Scott was a constant and reassuring presence, always ready to lend a hand and provide guidance with EMS support. His knowledge, reliability, and willingness to help others made a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.
Above all, Scott will be remembered for his dedicated and selfless service to the East Hampton community. His contributions made a difference in the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. 🕊️

Say hello to our 2nd Assistant Chief, Maureen Rutkowski! 
Since joining in 2019, Maureen has been making waves with Ocean Rescue after jumping in alongside a friend and never looking back. Now, she is the first woman in Ocean Rescue to hold a Chief position! 
💙 One of the things she loves most about EHVOR: “I love guarding at triathlon events, especially helping the weaker swimmers. They always seem to be willing to share their stories while hanging on to my paddle-board for a break, and so many of the stories are so inspiring!”

First up…
Chief Andrey Trigubovich

Andrey always wanted to be a lifeguard, and Ocean Rescue provided him with the opportunity to do so 24/7, year-round, as a volunteer. He says he simply loves everything about the ocean… but what really gets him going?
“When the tone drops, we respond to actual emergencies. The teamwork. The adrenaline. The trust in each other.”

💪 Most challenging OR moment: His first distance swim at the Main Beach Lifeguard Tournament: “Brutal survival mode.”

🦪 Fun fact: He dives for scallops in November — cold water, long process, but an incredible meal after.

‘Twas a busy one today with Montauk School’s Polar Plunge and ice rescue training with the Montauk Fire Department.

The warmer temps and rain these last few days took care of much of the ice around town. However, there is still some to be found. Thank you for today’s training on Fort Pond. As always, practice and repetition make us better and help prepare us for when someone is in trouble.

And….Thankfully, today’s plungers did not have ice to contend with. From the smiles and laughter, we think fun was had by all.
