We urge all East Haddam residents to call and email the office of Gov Ned Lamont on Monday morning, and tell him to veto HB 8002! Details below:

Gov Lamont said he will sign HB 8002, “An Act Concerning Housing Growth," into law soon, and that's bad news for East Haddam.

The 104-page bill was introduced as an "emergency certified" measure with minimal notice—some sections reportedly unavailable publicly even after filing—allowing limited time for review, debate, or stakeholder input.

Key Areas of Concern:

We Lose Our Say: East Haddam will be forced to follow state housing quotas, overriding our town's zoning votes and plans.

Density Overload: It mandates 10% of land for high-density apartments & duplexes, cramming in more homes than our roads & schools can handle.

Tax Hikes: New infrastructure demands (sewers, fire services) could spike property taxes.

Kills Small-Town Charm: Overrides protections for historic areas & open spaces, erasing what makes East Haddam special.

No Real Choice: Non-compliance cuts state aid for schools & roads—it's comply or get punished.

You can email Gov Lamont here: https://portal.ct.gov/governor/contact/email-governor-lamont?language=en_US

You can read the bill here:https://www.cga.ct.gov/2025/TOB/H/PDF/2025HB-08002-R00-HB.PDF
