On Friday, Firefighters responded to a fire on the 3rd floor of a 5 story apartment building in the 3100 block of Washington Ave. The first arriving Engine crew encountered heavy smoke in the hall and significant heat in the fire apartment. The decision was made to make a quick attack with a water extinguisher. At the same time, other crews conducted searches and evacuations. Thank you to our on scene mutual aid partners East Alton Professional Firefighters Local 2333, Godfrey Firefighters IAFF Local 1692, and Survival Flight Ground EMS as well as Edwardsville Fire Department and Black Jack Fire Department who were cancelled prior to arrival.
