This morning, I was proud to join the Eagle Pass Police Department for a 5K in support of an important cause.

In collaboration with the EPPD Special Crimes Victims Unit, the event raised awareness about domestic violence while bringing our community together to promote fitness, healthy living, and unity. More than 130 participants showed up, and their support was a powerful reminder of the compassion and strength in Eagle Pass.

Thank you to Mayor Aaron Valdez, City Administration, my fellow City Council members, and the entire City of Eagle Pass team for helping make this event possible. I also want to recognize the Órale Run Club for always showing up to support our community and for continuing to collaborate on events like this.

Thank you to Chief of Police Amy Gonzalez, the Eagle Pass Police Department, and every officer and staff member who helped make the 5K a success. Most of all, thank you to everyone who participated and stood with survivors. Your presence helps raise awareness and reminds us that we can stand together against domestic violence.

Together, we can raise awareness, support survivors, and build a healthier, stronger Eagle Pass.

Esta mañana me sentí orgullosa de acompañar al Departamento de Policía de Eagle Pass en una carrera 5K en apoyo a una causa importante.

En colaboración con la Unidad de Delitos Especiales y Víctimas del EPPD, el evento ayudó a crear conciencia sobre la violencia doméstica y reunió a nuestra comunidad para promover la actividad física, una vida saludable y la unión. Más de 130 participantes se hicieron presentes, y su apoyo demostró la compasión y fortaleza de Eagle Pass.

Gracias al alcalde Aaron Valdez, a la Administración Municipal, a mis compañeros del Concejo Municipal y a todo el equipo de la Ciudad de Eagle Pass por ayudar a hacer posible este evento. También quiero reconocer al Órale Run Club por apoyar siempre a nuestra comunidad y por colaborar continuamente en eventos como este.

Gracias a la jefa de Policía Amy Gonzalez, al Departamento de Policía de Eagle Pass y a cada oficial y empleado que ayudó a que esta carrera fuera un éxito. Sobre todo, gracias a todas las personas que participaron y apoyaron a quienes han sobrevivido la violencia doméstica. Su presencia ayuda a crear conciencia y nos recuerda que podemos unirnos para hacer frente a esta problemática.

Juntos podemos crear conciencia, apoyar a quienes han sobrevivido la violencia doméstica y construir un Eagle Pass más saludable y fuerte.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Eagle Pass Police Department for hosting another successful National Night Out! We had hundreds of community members join us today for an evening of connection, family fun, and community spirit.

Thank you to every agency, organization, and community partner who participated and helped make this event possible. Congratulations to all the dance and cheer teams who took the stage and delivered outstanding performances!

And to everyone who came out to celebrate with us: thank you. I hope you and your families had a wonderful time. Events like this remind us that we are stronger together and safer together!

¡Un sincero agradecimiento al Departamento de Policía de Eagle Pass por organizar otro exitoso evento de National Night Out! Hoy contamos con la asistencia de cientos de miembros de nuestra comunidad para disfrutar una tarde de convivencia, diversión familiar y espíritu comunitario.

What a meaningful evening for our community! On Tuesday, September 29, Manos Unidas welcomed guests to its First Annual Gala Fashion Show, an inspiring event dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence.

The evening brought people together through fashion, dinner, a live auction, and moving survivor testimonies. “A Walk of Strength” was especially powerful, giving survivors the opportunity to share their stories and the strength it takes to move forward. Manos Unidas has served 81 survivors and continues to provide life-saving resources and advocate for a community free from domestic violence.

Congratulations to Manos Unidas Director Yaraida Alexander and her entire team for creating such an impactful and inspiring event. As we approach Domestic Violence Awareness Month and take important steps toward the long-awaited Victims Shelter, this gathering was a powerful reminder of the work still ahead and the difference we can make together.

I also want to commend our emcees of the evening for their professionalism and for helping make the program so engaging. As Councilman Elias Díaz shared in his inspiring words, two years ago this work did not exist—and two years from now, it will be bigger and better.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the gala possible, especially the generous sponsors and supporters. And a personal thank-you to Make-up by MONI Monica Vallejo-Huerta for my hair and makeup for such a special evening!

¡Qué noche tan significativa para nuestra comunidad! El martes 29 de septiembre, Manos Unidas recibió a sus invitados en su Primera Gala Anual de Moda, un evento inspirador dedicado a apoyar a las sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica.

La velada reunió a nuestra comunidad con moda, cena, una subasta en vivo y conmovedores testimonios. “Un Desfile de Fortaleza” fue un momento especialmente poderoso, pues permitió que las sobrevivientes compartieran sus historias y la fortaleza que se necesita para seguir adelante. Manos Unidas ha brindado apoyo a 81 sobrevivientes y continúa ofreciendo recursos que salvan vidas y abogando por una comunidad libre de violencia doméstica.

Felicidades a la directora de Manos Unidas, Yaraida Alexander, y a todo su equipo por crear un evento tan impactante e inspirador. Al acercarnos al Mes de Concientización sobre la Violencia Doméstica y avanzar hacia el esperado Refugio para Víctimas, esta velada nos recordó el trabajo que aún queda por hacer y la diferencia que podemos lograr unidos.

También quiero reconocer a nuestros maestros de ceremonia por su profesionalismo y por ayudar a que el programa fuera tan ameno. Como expresó el concejal Elias Díaz con palabras inspiradoras, hace dos años este trabajo no existía; y dentro de dos años será aún más grande y mejor.

Gracias a todas las personas que hicieron posible esta gala, especialmente a los generosos patrocinadores y colaboradores. Y un agradecimiento personal a Moni por mi peinado y maquillaje para una noche tan especial.

Congratulations Deejay ! I’m so incredibly proud of my Godson and his commitment to the sport he’s played so passionately and also to furthering his education. Navarro College, treat him well and make him feel at home !

Congratulations to DJ Aranda (Eagle Pass c/o 2027) on his commitment to Navarro College!

DJ is one of the best infielders in a very talented 2027 class, and we’ve been blessed to have his name in our lineup since he was 12 years old. Watching his growth over the years has been special, and we can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.

It will be fun to watch the Bulldogs next year! Congratulations, DJ!

The before-and-after photos show the hard work our City of Eagle Pass Public Works Department put into cleaning the detention pond near OLOR Cemetery. Thank you to Public Works Director Daniel Ibarra and the entire crew for their time, effort, and dedication. Their work throughout our city helps keep these areas maintained and makes a real difference for our residents.

This cleanup is the first phase of a larger effort to bring residents in the surrounding area much-needed flooding relief and added protection. It’s one of many projects moving in the right direction as we continue working to improve our community.

I’m grateful to our Public Works team for the important work they do every day to keep Eagle Pass clean, maintained, and moving forward.

Las fotos del antes y después muestran el arduo trabajo que realizó nuestro Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de Eagle Pass para limpiar el detention pond cerca del Cementerio OLOR. Gracias al Director de Obras Públicas, Daniel Ibarra, y a todo su equipo por su tiempo, esfuerzo y dedicación. El trabajo que realizan en nuestra ciudad ayuda a mantener estas áreas en buenas condiciones y hace una verdadera diferencia para nuestros residentes.

Esta limpieza representa la primera fase de un esfuerzo más amplio para brindar el tan necesario alivio ante las inundaciones y mayor protección a los residentes de los alrededores. Es uno de muchos proyectos que avanzan en la dirección correcta mientras seguimos trabajando para mejorar nuestra comunidad.

Agradezco a nuestro equipo de Obras Públicas por la importante labor que realiza todos los días para mantener an Eagle Pass limpio, en buenas condiciones y avanzando.

Today, I was proud to join local leaders and TxDOT Commissioner Alex Meade for the groundbreaking of the second and final phase of State Loop 480 in Eagle Pass.

This nearly six-mile project will connect U.S. 57 to U.S. 277 North, helping route truck traffic around residential areas while improving mobility, safety, and connectivity. It will also serve as an important link in the Ports-to-Plains Corridor.

This milestone belongs to everyone who helped bring the project this far. For years, previous elected representatives championed Loop 480 and worked to move it forward. Their persistence, along with the hard work of local leaders, TxDOT, and all who contributed along the way, laid the groundwork for today. This could not have happened without them.

The $93.69 million construction contract was awarded to Hunter Industries, with 817 working days allocated for the project. As one of your City Council representatives, I’m proud to see this long-awaited investment advance for Eagle Pass and our region.

Hoy me sentí orgullosa de acompañar a líderes locales y al comisionado de TxDOT, Alex Meade, en la ceremonia de inicio de la segunda y última fase de State Loop 480 en Eagle Pass.

Este proyecto de casi seis millas conectará la carretera U.S. 57 con la U.S. 277 Norte, ayudando a desviar el tráfico de camiones de las zonas residenciales y mejorando la movilidad, la seguridad y la conectividad. También será un enlace importante del corredor Ports-to-Plains.

Este logro pertenece a todas las personas que ayudaron a llevar el proyecto hasta este momento. Durante años, representantes electos anteriores defendieron State Loop 480 y trabajaron para hacerlo avanzar. Su perseverancia, junto con el arduo trabajo de líderes locales, TxDOT y todas las personas que contribuyeron, sentó las bases para este día. Esto no habría sido posible sin ellos.
