If you have a sump pump, keep an eye on it during this week with all the thawing. If it’s filling with water, you may hear a running water sound and eventually the pump will turn on and shut off in a bit, that’s pretty normal.
If you don’t have a pump in the sump basin, use a stick to drop into the basin to check if and how much water is in there.
In some cases with pumps that run often we add a battery back up system for a little extra piece of mind.

In efforts to save water and end up with a excellent flushing toilet consider an upgrade.
The new toilets are 1.6 or 1.28 gallons per flush, and are typically 3 times more powerful than the common 3.5 gallons per flush toilets.
I prefer the professional grade Ge**er Viper or Ge**er Avalanche models.
These models do offer the standard round, elongated, and comfort type.(2” taller)

We are closed on December 24th and December 25th in observance of the Christmas holiday. We believe our guys deserve to be with their families, as we hope you are with yours.

An important appliance in your home is your water softener. A simple way to test if it’s working only involves water and liquid dish soap.
Take a small glass and fill about ½ full of water from kitchen hot only or a vanity faucet. Add a few drops of liquid dish soap and cover with other hand and shake up. If really full of suds, probably soft. If only a skim of suds, probably not soft. A good quality softener like we furnish would last 15-20 years. Most retail units have stopped working as little as 3-5 years.

When shopping for a faucet or water heater, plumbers will typically supply the original wholesale version of these.
Even the familiar name brands are selling a retail versions of these products, and have gotten far from the wholesale grade. For example stay away from the exclusive products. Our experience is that the quality isn’t good.
Water heaters and water softeners are included.

Over and over I talk about if you are away from your house for any extended amount of time, turn your main water off till you get back.
So it maybe a good time to update that main valve so it works well.
If you need it on for the sprinkler we can help with a little repiping to accomplish that.
Shutting the main off can sure prevent damage.

Being spring is getting close.

Pay close attention to your sump pump that it is working and the drain hose outside is clear

Also when turning on outdoor spigots for the season, make sure the outside spigot is in the off position, then turn the valve on in basement for each spigot. When you do this, listen that you hear water running but should stop and be silent. This is 1 way to assure there are no breaks in the piping. Also if it ever seems like the pressure is low outside, stop and call me. There may be a break that could be leaking into the basement.

While we're inside our homes more this time of year, here's a little test to make sure your water softener is working;
Fill a small glass 1/2 full of water from a vanity faucet, and add a few drops of liquid dish soap, hold your hand over the top and shake. The glass should be full of suds. If so the water is pretty soft, if not so much, then the softener may not be working so well. This is a pretty good and easy test.
