Grandma Joy, the oldest person in the world to begin and complete the circuit to all 63 U.S. National Parks, is on the cusp of reaching the next great milestone of her age-defying travel legacy.

Our quest to reach all seven continents—a dream we embarked on when Grandma Joy was 93-years-old—is about to come true. Over the past three years we have visited ten countries spanning five continents. This week we are headed to Thailand and Australia with our wonderful friends at Road Scholar to check the final two continents off our list!

A quarter century has passed since terrorists took the lives of 2,977 victims on 9/11. In the years that followed, at least 9,000 people have died from health problems linked to 9/11. And then there is the unquantifiable psychological toll this day had on generations of Americans around the country who helplessly watched the horrors unfold in real time.

We have read every name at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. We hold space in our hearts for the victims, survivors, and the friends and family whose lives were forever changed by human evil. We remember a time when all Americans were united, though it was a flickering flame. There is no better day than today to reflect on the kind of America we want to be—to rekindle our American Dream to be United once more. Let the darkness of this day serve as our guiding light every day to out-create divisiveness with compassion, empathy, love, and an embodiment of our common humanity.

URGENT! Deadline for public comment to USDA to prevent rescinding the Roadless Rule is September 21.

Grandma Joy and I left our public comments on Regulations.gov today regarding the Trump administration’s proposal for the USDA to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule in its entirety. This federal legislation protects nearly 45 million acres of national forest land across the U.S.

This would be among the most significant rollbacks of public land conservation protections in U.S. history—destroying old-growth forests, threatening fragile ecosystems and endangered wildlife, clean water, increasingly rare intact landscapes for recreation, and ancestral and present-day Tribal Nation homelands. We must take a collective stand to stop this.

Grandma Joy reunited with her favorite animal today in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park! Not only did she get an up close and personal view of the pika’s antics, she snagged her very own pika sweatshirt at the Alpine Visitor Center!

Grandma Joy and I have been privileged to revisit some of our favorite U.S. National Parks during our summer tour. The first time we visited Utah’s Canyonlands National Park in 2019, we only explored the Needles District.

This time we ventured to the Island in the Sky entrance and the payoff was huge! The views were expansive and inspirational around every bend. Whether you are exploring a new region of a park or visiting during a different season, it’s a beautiful feeling to come home to a park and discover a whole new world was waiting for you.
