Today, we pause not for barbecues or long weekends… but for remembrance.

Memorial Day exists because brave men and women gave everything they had in service to this country. It is a day set aside to honor those who never made it home — the heroes who missed birthdays, holidays, retirements, and time with the people they loved so the rest of us could have the freedoms we often take for granted.

Behind every headstone is a story.
A family forever changed.
A sacrifice that deserves to be remembered — not just today, but always.

As flags wave and families gather, may we never forget the true meaning of this day:
To honor the fallen.
To remember their sacrifice.
And to ensure their legacy lives on. 🇺🇸

“Freedom is never free.”

🚑 🚨EMS Week 2026 🚨🚑

This week, we honor the men and women of Emergency Medical Services — the calm in chaos, the steady hands in tragedy, and the voices of hope on someone’s worst day.

Since 1974, when President Gerald Ford officially authorized EMS Week, communities across the nation have paused to recognize the lifesaving work EMS professionals do every single day. They are the frontline of medicine — responding without hesitation when seconds matter most.

Here in the Northland, we know EMS doesn’t stand alone. Law enforcement, fire, dispatchers, and EMS work side by side through the darkest moments imaginable. Together, they walk into scenes most people will never see… horrific crashes, violence, overdoses, tragedy, loss, and heartbreak. They carry those moments with them long after the lights stop flashing.

But through it all, they continue to show up.
For strangers.
For families.
For their communities.

Public safety is built on teamwork, trust, and sacrifice — and EMS is a critical part of that family. Their compassion saves lives. Their courage steadies chaos. Their dedication makes our communities stronger every single day.

To every EMT, paramedic, flight medic, and first responder who stands shoulder to shoulder serving others: THANK YOU‼️

The Northland sees you.
The Northland appreciates you.
And we are forever grateful for what you do.

The Stewart Trail wildfire north of Two Harbors has left behind heartbreaking devastation for so many families, businesses, and members of our community. Homes filled with memories… land built through generations of hard work… cherished belongings and safe places… gone in a matter of moments. It’s impossible to truly put that kind of loss into words.

But even in the middle of fear, smoke, exhaustion, and uncertainty — we are witnessing the very best of humanity.

Around the clock, firefighters, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, EMS personnel, forestry crews, public works, and countless emergency responders have worked tirelessly through the day and night to protect lives, homes, and entire communities. While others evacuated, they ran toward danger. While families worried, they stood on the front lines battling flames, heat, exhaustion, and impossible conditions without hesitation.

To every single hero fighting this blaze: thank you will never feel like enough. Our community stands with you, supports you, and is forever grateful for your courage, sacrifice, and relentless dedication.

And to the people and businesses stepping up to help — donating supplies, opening doors, feeding responders, supporting displaced families, checking on neighbors, and proving once again what northern Minnesota is made of — you are the heartbeat of this community. In times of tragedy, the Northland shows its strength not through words, but through action.

For those who have lost everything: please know you are not alone. This community is standing beside you every step of the way.

Northern Minnesota is strong. And together, we will get through this. ❤️

There are empty chairs at dinner tables tonight.
Unanswered texts.
Voicemails that will never be returned.

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who left for a shift… and never came home.

They didn’t just wear a badge.
They were husbands, wives, moms, dads, sons, daughters, best friends.
They had plans. Inside jokes. People waiting for them.

And in a single moment, everything changed.

This day honors federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who were killed or disabled in the line of duty—but for the families left behind, this isn’t just a day.
It’s every day.

We honor those who still put the uniform on and walk into the unknown.
We remember those who gave everything.

Say their names.
Hold your people a little tighter.
And never forget the cost of the line they chose to stand on.

💙 Always honored. Never forgotten.

➖️🔷️➖️ LINE OF DUTY INJURY ➖️🔷️➖️

During Police Week, communities across the country are supposed to be honoring the men and women behind the badge — thanking them for the sacrifices they make and the dangers they willingly face for complete strangers.

Yet here in northern Minnesota, while many were sleeping peacefully along the shores of Lake Superior and throughout the Iron Range, another officer answered the call in Biwabik not knowing what waited on the other side of that door.

That is the reality of this profession.

Our officers run toward chaos while others run away. They walk into danger, uncertainty, violence, and evil — all to protect people they may never even meet again. Every shift carries the possibility that a routine call could become a life-changing moment in seconds.

Lake Superior Lodge 9 FOP stands firmly beside this injured officer, their family, and their brothers and sisters in blue during this incredibly difficult time. We are praying for strength, healing, and a full recovery.

To every officer across the Northland: during Police Week and every other week of the year, know that your courage, sacrifice, and service do not go unnoticed.

Today we honor the four-legged heroes who never hesitated to run toward danger beside their human partners.

On National K9 Memorial Day, we remember the loyal police K9s who served with courage, protected their communities, and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their bravery, dedication, and unwavering loyalty will never be forgotten.

Behind every badge and leash was a bond built on trust, sacrifice, and love — a partnership stronger than words.

To all the fallen K9 heroes:
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your protection.
You served with honor. 🖤🐾💙

We also solemnly remember our local K9 heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice: K9 Haas and K9 Luna ran toward evil and saved the lives of countless people. We will never forget them, their sacrifice or those who's lives changed those fateful nights.

🖤💙 NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2026 💙🖤

They are your neighbors, your friends, the guy in the bread aisle in the grocery store the mom with 3 kids in front of you at church. Just regular people.

They are the people who kiss their families goodbye and walk out the door not knowing what the day—or night—will bring…
and they go anyway.

HEROES.

They go when it’s hard.
They go when it’s dangerous.
They go when everyone else is running the other way.

This week, we honor those who serve—
the ones who carry the weight of the badge, the responsibility, the heartbreak, and still show up shift after shift.
The ones who give so much of themselves to protect complete strangers.

And we hold close the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ones who never got to come home.
The ones whose families carry a silence that will never quite be filled.

They are not just names etched in stone;
they are stories, laughter, love, and legacies that will live on forever.

HEROES.

The Thin Blue Line isn’t just a symbol…
it’s every late-night call, every deep breath before stepping out of the squad, every prayer whispered by the ones waiting at home.

This week—and every week—
we remember.
we honor.
and we stand beside you.

Always. 💙🖤

We want to know - how are you spreading the love this week?

Happy Mother’s Day to the Moms of law enforcement. 👮‍♀️💙

The women who go from changing diapers to chasing down suspects.
From packing lunches to working midnight shifts.
From piles of laundry to foot pursuits.
From bedtime stories to putting bad guys behind bars.

You somehow carry the weight of motherhood and the weight of the badge at the same time. You protect your families at home while also protecting complete strangers out in the world.

You miss holidays, school programs, dinners, and sleep — yet your kids still know exactly who their hero is.

Today we celebrate the law enforcement moms who do it all with strength, grit, sacrifice, and love. Thank you for serving your communities while still being “mom” first.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who can comfort a child, survive chaos, and still show up for roll call. 💙🚔

As we continue to recognize our Corrections Officers this week, we want to highlight a little more about the heroes these amazing men and women are.

Correctional Officers are some of the most unseen heroes in public safety. While much of the world sleeps, celebrates holidays, or goes about their normal lives, they walk into locked facilities every single day knowing danger, chaos, and tragedy can unfold in seconds.

Their job is far more than “guarding inmates.”

They are counselors, crisis negotiators, medics, mentors, peacekeepers, and often the only steady presence in someone’s darkest times. They witness addiction, mental illness, violence, trauma, su***de attempts, manipulation, and heartbreak on a daily basis — yet still show up the next shift ready to do it all over again.

Behind those walls, correctional officers maintain order in environments most people could never imagine working in. They make split-second decisions that protect not only each other, but the population as a whole. Because when corrections is strong, communities are safer.

What many never see is the pride correctional officers carry in their work. The quiet pride in de-escalating a situation before it turns violent or deadly. The pride in helping someone take steps toward becoming better. The pride in protecting their partners beside them. And the pride in doing one of the hardest jobs in public safety with little recognition and even less understanding from the outside world.

The tragedies they witness stay with them. The stress follows them home. Yet they continue to serve with strength, grit, dark humor, loyalty, and hearts bigger than most people will ever realize.

Today, and every day, we recognize and appreciate our Correctional Officers — the unseen line standing strong behind the walls.

Thank you for what you do, what you sacrifice, and the difference you make every single day.

Today, evil showed up—and our brother from the Itasca County Sheriff's Office met it head on.

He was shot in the line of duty.

And he survived.

Let that sink in.

In a moment most people will never understand, he stepped forward when others couldn’t. He faced what most run from. He answered the call—and paid a price for it.

But he is still here.

And for that, we are fiercely, overwhelmingly grateful.

We pray for his complete healing—body, mind, and soul. Because the battle doesn’t end when the sirens fade. The scars you can’t see can run just as deep.

To our brother: you are not alone. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.
To his family: we are holding you up.
To his brothers and sisters in blue: we stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

This badge comes with a weight most will never understand. Today, he carried it straight into danger—and came back.

And that means everything.

💙
