“Open bay doors can make a fire station seem more welcoming and connected to the community.
When the apparatus bay is open, people can see the fire trucks, firefighters, and activity inside the station. This can create a sense of accessibility and transparency, making the department appear less closed off and more like a part of the neighborhood. Some departments intentionally keep bay doors open when weather, security, and operational needs allow because it encourages positive interaction with residents.

Another reason for open bay doors are often practical—ventilation, cleaning, maintenance, training, or moving vehicles.
"Open bay doors can signal that the fire department is approachable, visible, and engaged with the community it serves."
"A visible, accessible fire station helps build public trust and reinforces the department's connection to the community." Open doors are most meaningful when they are part of broader community engagement efforts, such as station tours, public education programs, and neighborhood outreach.

While our doors are certainly not always open, we want the community to feel welcome and stop by sometimes to check out “your” department!
