CHANNEL UPDATE:

Today I completed publishing the final videos necessary for me to claim 100% video coverage of the Interstate Highway System on the 'roadwaywiz' YouTube channel. This accomplishment has been 16 years in the making and represents the creation of the first-ever online database where any given segment of the entirety of the 48,000+ mile Interstate System can be viewed from one location.

These final videos mentioned above are currently available to paid channel members and will be completely available to the public by March 24. Those videos are still a work-in-progress from a presentation standpoint, as they lack thumbnails and descriptions. These shortcomings are temporary and will be updated prior to them going public in the days/weeks ahead.

While today's milestone is very gratifying and represents a monumental achievement in the history of road fandom and YouTube, the job is far from over. Additional Full-Length Interstate videos (for both primary and auxiliary routes nationwide) will be added in the months ahead so that the entire Interstate System will be available through those portals as well. As of now, the system can be viewed in a few different formats, however I plan on making everything more uniform and easier to browse in the future. I look forward to continuing to curate the nationwide collection of video footage and continuing to make it more accessible to an ever-growing audience!

Speaking of I-42, let's take a look at what's becoming one of the largest interchange complexes in the Tar Heel State, where Interstates 40 and 42 meet the NC 540 Triangle Expressway about 10 miles southeast of downtown Raleigh. Not so long ago, this was a non-descript section of relatively rural interstate along I-40. Nowadays, it serves as a vital suburban crossroads between three major highways.

While I-40 proceeds southeasterly toward Benson and Wilmington, I-42 now heads east from here toward Goldsboro and the Atlantic coast while NC 540 serves the southern arc of suburbs south of Raleigh. NC 540 is also currently being extended northward in the final phase of the Raleigh Beltway project; the final connection back to I-540/I-87 near Knightdale is planned for completion in 2028, creating a continuous outer loop (parts interstate, parts tollway) encircling North Carolina's capital city.

It's mindboggling to think that today is the first day of my life without any outstanding mileage of the Interstate Highway System left to cover. On my way to the airport, I revisited some classic Raleigh urban drives - the updated footage will be used for future full-length interstate videos. Certainly one for I-40 is in the works. I'm debating whether I'll give the same treatment to auxiliary interstates on the channel, but there's a compelling case in favor of doing so.

Pictured is the westbound/outer loop drive on the 440 Beltline. Very cool to see the widening project near completion with all lanes open between 40 and Wade - that's been a long time coming and that extra lane makes a huge difference.

At about 1:45 PM ET this afternoon (Sunday, 2/8/26), I reached the eastern terminus of Interstate 587 in Greenville, NC. This was the final endpoint in my years-long journey to cover every mile of the Interstate Highway System and to be the first YouTuber to have every mile logged in video form.

I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities I've had over the last 16 years that made today's achievement possible. It never would have happened without a lucrative and stable career, good health (with me and elsewhere), and a little bit of luck from the weather and traffic Gods from time to time along the way. I'm also grateful to be able to share my love of travel and America's great highways and cities with people all over the country and world through the outlets of YouTube and social media. I love doing what I do and get a lot of additional enjoyment out of knowing that others out there find my work worthwhile.

As for the future, there's still one more day left in this trip. Beyond that, lots of work ahead to ensure I can upload the remaining Interstate miles to the channel ASAP. I hope to have more elaborate and expansive thoughts on today and what it means to me personally and moving forward, but for now I'll simply say the same thing I've told people for the last 16 years. Thanks for watching! (And screw the Patriots! 🤡)

On Day 3 (2/7/26) of what's become known as the "Interstate Golden Spike" trip, the final interstate mileage in South Carolina was completed (courtesy of I-20 between Florence and Columbia) and a side trip to Myrtle Beach added yet another major American city to the video library. The Palmetto State is the 49th state to reach 100% interstate system completion.

That leaves just North Carolina with uncovered mileage. After today's visit to the new southern extension of I-295 near Fayetteville, only I-42 and I-587 stand between this YouTube channel and a fully complete Interstate System catalog. Tomorrow is sure to be a historic and significant day as those final miles are covered.
