Attended the annual Gateway Cities retreat with 20+ other surrounding cities in the Gateway area. We are currently installing  high-speed 10mb broadband fiber optic underground in surrounding cities to bring internet to underserved areas. We also work on the new Metro lines, homelessness, housing and environmental issues. Over 30 years, Many great projects came from this organization. President Hector De La Torre does an excellent job identifying federal and state Grant funds. 👏

We lost an iconic member of our community this week -
MARTHA SODETANI.
Martha was involved in so many organizations, was an advocate for foster youth and a Downey School Board member for over 20 years. She will always be remembered for her caring, warmth, and grace.  We will celebrate her life September 16th 🙏

What an honor it was to meet these Paralympians in our city. It has Special meaning because the city’s founder John Gatley Downey was from Ireland.

A very busy week with a number of events I attended, reaching so many people with different interests and needs. From backpack distribution, to concerts in the park, to the Downey Pride Festival. This is what makes our community a city where people choose to live, work, play, shop and even retire here. I ❤️ Downey.
