Ward 1, it's time for your June curbside yard waste pickup. Through October, Ward 1 is picked up starting the first Monday of the month, Ward 2 the second Monday, and Ward 3 the third.

Materials should be out by 7.30 AM on Monday, though they may not be picked up until the end of the week.

Here's what you need to know:

- Limbs must be less than 8" in diameter and less than 5’ in length, neatly stacked. Small limbs, branches and twigs must be placed in a container (bags, boxes, or cans). No stumps or root-balls will be picked up.

- The City reserves the right to exclude from pickup brush piles that are extraordinary in size or volume. Residents may request pickup of piles of extraordinary size, but will be charged a fee for such service based on the actual labor and equipment costs.

- All grass clippings and leaves must be contained (bags, boxes, or cans) and separated from limbs and twigs. Loose piles will not be picked up.

- Containers will be emptied by the City's crew onto the truck and left curbside to be re-used or properly disposed of by the resident.

- Materials for pick-up must be placed behind the curb – 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

- No building materials, machined lumber, root-balls, stones, trash, garbage, litter, or f***l material will be accepted or removed. Violations will be cited in accordance with the city's blight ordinance.

𝗪𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝘀. 🌳

Want to help shape the future of Dowagiac? The City has openings on three boards, and we'd love to have you at the table:

🏛️ 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Helps review the City's property assessments and hears taxpayer appeals

🌳 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱: Helps care for the trees in our parks, along our streets, and in other public spaces

🪦 𝗖𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱: Helps care for Riverside Cemetery

Serving on a board is one of the most direct ways to give back to your community and help make Dowagiac an even better place to live. You don't need to be an expert — you just need to care about our city and be willing to show up. Most boards meet only a handful of times a year.

📅 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭.

Details for Monday's Memorial Day activities

This Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, local events start at 10:30 AM outside of City Hall, 241 S. Front Street at Main.

Thank you to the Dowagiac Masonic Temple Peninsular Lodge No. 10. They've organized Dowagiac's historic Memorial Day Parade for more 20 years.

Parade participants will begin to line up on Depot Drive at 9:30 AM. The Memorial Ceremony starts at 10:30 AM, and the parade steps off at 11:00 AM.

The route starts at City Hall, heads north on Front, east on Division, and south on Riverside to the cemetery.

Immediately following the parade, around 11:30 AM, you're welcome to bring the entire family for free hot dogs and ice cream at the VFW Post 1855 Dowagiac, MI, 472 E Division Street. They'll be serving until they run out.

Memorial Day asks us to pause and remember the service members who gave their lives for our country. We hope to see you there as Dowagiac honors them together.
