The FDA is warning patients and health care providers about a higher-than-expected risk of failure with the Hintermann Series H3 Total Ankle Replacement system.

People with this ankle implant may have a higher chance of needing another surgery to repair or replace parts of the device.

If you have this implant, contact your health care provider if you have new or worsening pain, swelling, trouble using your ankle, trouble putting weight on it, weakness, or unusual noises coming from the joint.

Taking care of your health today can help prevent problems tomorrow. Regular checkups, screenings, and preventive care are important at every stage of life. Talk with your health care provider about the screenings and services that are right for you based on your age, health history, and risk factors. Preventive care can help detect health issues early, when they may be easier to treat.

Oral cancer is a serious disease but very treatable when found early. Screenings are quick, painless, and often done during your regular dental check-up by your dentist or dental hygienist.

But the watch shouldn’t stop there.

Between visits, you can (and should!) check at home—especially if you don’t currently have a dentist. Being familiar with what’s normal in your mouth can help you spot changes early.

Learn how to do a self-exam here: https://www.mouthcancerfoundation.org/self-examination/

Keep in mind: oral cancer doesn’t just affect what you can see. It can also develop in areas like the throat, which is why regular dental visits are so important — your dental team is trained to check places you can’t easily see yourself.

The message is simple: Get screened at your dental visits; stay aware at home; and don’t ignore changes that don’t heal

The watch doesn’t have to end when you leave the dentist’s office, and that’s a good thing. Staying vigilant at hoe could make all the difference.
