Dodge County would like to warn residents about a new email phishing scam affecting Dodge and nearby counties.

Recently in Dodge County, a resident received an email that looked like it came from the county administrator. The email was concerning a property permit and asked the person to wire money for an invoice. This email was fake.

Scammers are sending emails from Hotmail, Gmail, and other non county addresses. They label the email with a name that looks like it is from a county in Minnesota, but it is not real.

These scammers find information from public websites. They then use that information to create a fake invoice that asks you to pay by wire transfer. Because they include your correct information, the email may look official — but it is not.

Important things to know:
• Dodge County rarely sends direct emails to residents.
• We will never send emails from Hotmail, Gmail, or other free email accounts.
• All real county emails end in dodgecountymn.gov.
• If you receive an email and are unsure if it is real, contact us right away. (DO NOT REPLY TO THE EMAIL OR CALL ANY NUMBERS IN THE EMAILS OR ATTACHMENTS)

How to protect yourself:
• Be careful with emails that look suspicious.
• Do not click links or open attachments if you didn’t expect the message.
• If something seems off, contact Dodge County to double check.

Staying alert and asking questions can help keep your information safe.

Watch for traffic slowdowns as crack sealing begins May 11 in Dodge, Goodhue, Olmsted, Rice counties

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists traveling on state highways in Dodge, Goodhue, Olmsted and Rice counties may experience traffic slowdowns beginning Monday, May 11, as crews begin crack sealing work to preserve the state’s highways, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Work begins May 11 in ### County on Highway xx. Exact work locations and traffic impacts are expected to be on 511mn.org.

A lane closure will occur on roads being worked on and flaggers will direct traffic.

Work is expected to be completed in June. Highways scheduled for the work include:
• Goodhue County
o Highway 61/63 at Red Wing, east of the Highway 58 intersection
o Highway 60/57 roundabout at Wanamingo
o Highway 19 east of Cannon Falls, from Highway 20 to Almond Street
• Dodge County
o Highway 56 in West Concord, from Southview Street to Dodge County Road 24
• Dodge and Olmsted counties
o Highway 14 eastbound and westbound between Kasson and Byron
• Olmsted County
o Highway 30 between Stewartville and Chatfield
o Highway 30 north of Stewartville, between south and north junctions of Olmsted County Road 8, west of Rochester International Airport
• Rice County
o Highway 60 in Faribault, from east of Highway 21 (Lyndale Avenue) to east of Central Avenue

Crews will clean out the cracked areas of pavement and then apply a sealant in the closed lane of the road. Preservation work such as sealing cracks helps maintain and preserve the driving surface by keeping water out of the cracks. Cracks allow water to seep into pavement and can damage roads.
Safety in work zones
Motorists should always be prepared to encounter traffic changes when approaching work zones, including lane closures, lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, slow-moving heavy equipment and slow or stopped traffic. To keep everyone safe, drivers must:
• Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
• Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones and mobile devices, adjusting the radio or eating while in work zones.
• Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
• Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at www.511mn.org or get the free 511mn smartphone app at Google Play or the App Store.
• Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Do the zipper merge.
• Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
• Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
