🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – GAS LINE BREAK 🚨

Residents and motorists are advised that crews are currently repairing a gas line break in the 7100 block of Kipling Parkway. The northeastbound (NEB) lanes are completely blocked while repairs are underway.
Motorists traveling from Marbury Drive who need to continue in that direction should use the following detour:

➡️ Marbury Drive → Senate Avenue → Mason Street → Kipling Parkway

Please use caution, expect delays, slow down, and follow all posted traffic-control directions while crews are working in the area.

The City will provide additional updates as conditions change. Please share this information with neighbors who may be traveling through the area.

⚡ CITY UPDATE | COOLING & CHARGING STATIONS ⚡

As power continues to be restored throughout our community, the City of District Heights will close the Recreation Center and Senior Center at 4:00 p.m. today, Saturday, September 5. The centers will not reopen tomorrow, Sunday, September 6.

🏛️ Labor Day Closure: City offices will also be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

✅ Normal operations will resume Tuesday, September 8.

If you are still without power and need access to a cooling and/or device-charging station, please email [email protected] for assistance.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as our community recovers from the recent storm.

⚡ CITY UPDATE: Cooling & Charging Stations ⚡

Due to power outages affecting residents following today’s storm, the City of District Heights will open the Recreation Center and Senior Center as temporary cooling and device-charging stations this weekend.

📅 Saturday, September 5 & Sunday, September 6
⏰ 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
📍 2000 Marbury Drive, District Heights, MD 20747

Residents are welcome to stop by to stay cool, charge electronic devices, and take a break while power restoration efforts continue.

According to Pepco, based on current conditions, power is estimated to be restored to 90% of customers by 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6. Restoration estimates may be updated as crews continue their work.

⚠️ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE ⚠️

Pepco has been notified of the power outage affecting the City of District Heights. A Pepco representative advised that additional crews have been deployed to assist with restoring power.

Residents should expect restoration to take at least 24 hours from the time the outage began.

Safety reminders:
🔹 Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food.
🔹 Stay away from downed power lines.
🔹 Report emergencies to 911.

⚠️ COMMUNITY ALERT: POWER OUTAGE & DOWNED TREE ⚠️

The City of District Heights is currently experiencing an unplanned power outage. Pepco has advised that power is expected to be restored between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

A tree is also down at the intersection of Foster Street and Ramble. Please use caution and avoid the immediate area if possible.

Safety reminders:
🔹 Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food.
🔹 Stay away from downed power lines.
🔹 Report emergencies to 911.
