The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) is an authority created by the State of Michigan that has replaced over 65,000 streetlights in the City of Detroit with brighter, reliable, energy-efficient lights. The authority is overseen by a five-member board that is appointed by the Mayor and the City Council. All five board members are residents of Detroit. PLA’s mission is to actively maintain, improve, and modernize the street lighting system in Detroit.

Our Midblock Lighting Program strives to make a lasting impact across Detroit, with 3,000+ new lights installed to improve visibility and enhance safety where residents need it most.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible ground crews, who work every day rain or shine to install, maintain, and restore the lights that help keep our city illuminated. Thank you to the hardworking teams making a difference, one light at a time. 💙💛
