Young Patriots Club

Young Patriots Club We are a local ministry of Mount Olive Lutheran School's freedom-loving youth. And that's exactly what we do, from hearts of gratitude.

Our mission is to honor God and uplift American heroes while growing servant leaders. YPC recognizes we are citizens and patriots first of Heaven, devoted to our gracious and good God, Creator, and Redeemer. Next, we're citizens of this greatest land in the history of the world - the United States of America, blessed by God with countless heroes who have sacrificed deeply so we can live our faith

and our lives boldly. After eight years as a K-12 grade after-school community club, Mount Olive Lutheran School in Des Moines is now home to YPC. Mount Olive is passionate about growing children and youth to bless our community with love and gratitude. From fundraisers for a cause, to welcoming veterans home from an honor flight to singing for the American Red Cross volunteers, we're excited to bless those who bless us. Mount Olive's third grade teacher, Julie Dueker, is the founder and director of the club. Contact Julie to request YPC for your local event at [email protected].

25 years ago this Friday, my friend, Darlene, called to tell me to turn on the TV - something awful had happened. I turned on the TV and saw things I can't unsee. I watched skyscrapers fall in real time, knowing they were filled with people - many people. I cried, and cried, and cried. I prayed. I called my husband who was working in a skyscaper here in Des Moines and couldn't wait for him to get home. I cried and prayed some more. My four-year-old son, Ryan, gave me a big hug and his Pooh Bear, my two-year-old son, Josh, brought me his blankie and told me it would be okay. They didn't know what was happening, but they comforted me anyway.

Our church pews were filled that night at little Peace Lutheran Church in DSM. Packed - with little room to spare. We prayed. We sought the help of our mighty God as we often do when things seem beyond us. We prayed for all the heroes who would be working day in and day out to rescue all they could, for justice for those who attacked us, for the attacks to be over. We opened our doors the next morning to find full spread American flags in the The Des Moines Register. We hung those on our doors and put American flag stickers on our cars. Our country was united in the face of this evil.

And now....we tell the stories of the heroes, the survivors, and teach our children how to use their gifts to honor God and protect others. We pray for those who are still hurting over the lost, or paying the cost for serving others in those conditions. Join us to remember them at the March to the Capitol - Des Moines. YPC will be there to sing our hearts out for those who march in remembrance.

Bob Lyons, Michael Dunkin - I'm in awe of the work you've done and the marches you've led in our city. My young patriots are impacted every year, and so am I. Keep it up, friends. Let's never forget.

Remember how 9/12 felt? Walk with us to sample that again.

We want to thank you all for your prayers, love, and support this year. It was an amazing year for YPC! Big missions, and through the power of our great God, they were accomplished! So many of YOU were part of it all!!! All challenge coins, and books have been funded, delivered, and our last deployed troops have been welcomed home. Our school, young patriots and their families were devoted to giving their best to thank so many of you who serve(d) our country and community. God is so good, and we are as thankful as ever that He invites us to be part of His story here in Des Moines!

Our young patriots were blessed to share our love and gratitude for our American freedoms and our freedom in Christ at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum’s Memorial Day breakfast today. It’s a joy to be able to think those sacrificed so much for us! What a morning!

Grateful for Bubba’s commitment to honor our veterans! If you’ve never been out to visit him on Memorial Day for the painting of the ashes, it’s well worth the trip to the original Freedom Rock he repaints annually.

Grateful for everyone who has supported the Freedom Rock® tour, shared stories, sponsored projects, and helped keep these tributes alive. Back at it again, see you this Memorial Weekend 🇺🇸
