Did you know car seats (and car seat bases) expire? As they age, parts of a car seat, including the plastic shell, can deteriorate and break down. Older car seats might not meet updated performance standards and labeling requirements.

To find out when your car seat expires:

1) Check the labels on the car seat
2) Review your car seat instruction manual
3) Contact the car seat manufacturer

Common error alert! I often see high-back boosters with the headrest much too low. This positions the shoulder belt improperly.

Some parents even remove the back because they know the belt is too low, but they don't realize that nearly all high-back boosters have headrests with attached belt guides which can be raised as the child grows.

Raising the back may require removing the seat from the car, and some are easier to adjust than others, but chances are that your child has more room to grow in their HBB than you thought :)
