Town of Superior, Colorado - Government

Town of Superior, Colorado - Government Welcome to the official page of the Town of Superior, Colorado! Glad You're Here! It grew from about 250 people in 1990 to nearly 12,000 today.

The Town of Superior is a statutory town located in southeast Boulder County. It boast grand open space and close proximity to Boulder and Denver. Superior's history is one of coal mining. The first mines in the area were developed in the late 1800's. The Town itself was founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1904. The Town reportedly was named after the "superior" quality of coal found in the area.

Mining was the major force in Superior's history until the Industrial Mine closed in 1945. Subsequently, many people moved out of the area and the Town evolved into a quiet ranching and farming community. In the 1990s the Rock Creek Subdivision was built resulting in an increase in population making the Town of Superior what it is today. From 1987 through 2006 approximately 2,700 single-family homes and 1,800 multi-family homes have been developed. Future development plans of the Town include commercial development, retail development, multi-family residential units, and single family homes. The Town is approximately four square miles in area has 540 acres of park and open space, 25 miles of trails and two outdoor pools. There is one elementary school and one K-8 school. Superior’s residents are well-educated, largely professional people who value its natural setting, advantageous location and outdoor activities.

Join your neighbors on Saturday, July 4 for a red, white, and blue good time at Superior's annual 4th of July Celebration! With pancakes, live music, games, bubbles, and entertainment for all, it's sure to be fun for the whole family.

Unfortunately, the annual Superior Downhill Mile and the parade are paused this year due to construction on Rock Creek Parkway. The Town is working hard to complete the bulk of the roadwork during the summer to avoid impacting school traffic.

The good news? The 4th of July Celebration will be bigger and better than ever! Stop by Community Park (1350 Coalton Road) from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your patriotic spirit and celebrate with the community!

Watching your dog explore the natural world off-leash can be a joyful experience. However, it's important to remember that dog ownership comes with responsibility, too.

Superior's leash ordinance requires you to keep your pup leashed (unless you're visiting a designated off-leash area), but doing so is also the kind and neighborly thing to do!

Visit Autrey Park Dog Park (1830 Honey Creek Drive) or Central Park Dog Park (2560 Central Park Way) for off-leash fun!
