Today I had the opportunity to attend the final presentations for Professor Stefan Chavez-Norgaard's PPOL-2701 course at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver.
The student teams delivered thoughtful and well researched presentations addressing timely public policy challenges facing Colorado and communities around the world.
Their work explored the policy implications of 1) AI data centers, including infrastructure, energy use, and community impact, 2) the possibility of Sundance in Boulder through the lens of sustainability, carbon emissions, and cultural access, practical approaches to 3) Colorado’s ongoing drought and water challenges, and the 4) Colorado Connector concept, a forward-looking transportation proposal focused on regional rail, connectivity, and solving the first-mile and last-mile problem.
I was impressed by the quality of the research, the professionalism of the presentations, and the students’ ability to connect complex issues with practical and innovative solutions.
Thank you to Professor Stefan Chavez-Norgaard for the invitation and for creating an environment that encourages students to think critically about public policy, international engagement, and the role of local leadership in addressing global challenges.
It was also a pleasure to attend alongside Shannon Payne, Senior Program Manager, Development & Strategic Initiatives at WorldDenver.
I look forward to following the future success of these talented students and wish them all the best as they continue their academic and professional journeys.
