RE: Planning and Zoning Commission

While there are many important things on next Tuesday’s city council agenda, I would be making a mistake if I didn’t draw your attention to one that I was very excited about! Margie Ellis has been nominated by Councilmember Ferrie for the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Margie has previously served on P & Z. She dutifully served as chair of the commission, as well. She is also one of my favorite people. I cannot think of anyone in Denton more qualified to serve on Planning and Zoning and am beyond thrilled and honored to vote for her on Tuesday!

September is Su***de Depression Month. I’ve struggled with depression my entire life. There are days where I haven’t been able to get out of bed, where everything feels meaningless. It’s that aching feeling where I’d rather feel something than nothing. Those dark nights of the soul feel incredibly isolating and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Therapy helped me. Talking to people I trusted helped me. It was slowly learning that asking for help doesn’t make you weak. It makes you brave and it makes you human.

If you’re struggling right now, please know that you are not alone, that the world is better with you in it, and that you are loved infinitely.

On Monday night, I received an e-mail from a 6 year old constituent who was upset with overdevelopment and the loss of green spaces in Denton. He said that he wanted to speak to council at our meeting the following night about these issues. I made sure to respond and asked him to introduce himself before the meeting started.

He was very smart and very brave. I see a future Denton mayor in the making!

I was on the phone with Councilmember Ferrie this morning while doing my daily walk downtown. Mid-conversation they said, “look directly in front of you!” George was standing right in front of me.

Two seconds later, we looked to our left, and there was Councilmember Rumohr getting on her bike. There’s over 165k people in the city, what are the odds that you run into two colleagues at the same time 😂
