Congratulations, Lil' D TV! I was lucky enough to stop by this afternoon as he was putting together the new office. Two things became clear. One, he’s far more handy with tools than I’ll ever be. Two, no one deserves this more than Cameron and his team.

They are such a gift to our community and I am incredibly stoked to see them grow.

As of this afternoon, Councilmember Villarreal and I have completed our “orientation” with the city. We had the opportunity to meet with city management, department heads, and a lot of wonderful staff. Today’s session included capital improvements, the police department, and the fire department.

The one thing that’s struck me is how many home-grown folks we have working for our city who have lived here all of their lives. We’re very lucky to have that!

I am happy to announce that, today, city council approved an agreement with the Office of the Attorney General to dismiss their lawsuit with the City of Denton.

Denton has always been in compliance with the law and this resolution ensures that OUTreach Denton and PRIDENTON’s event will still take place this weekend.

Thank you to our city staff for all of their hard work in making this happen. They truly are the best of our city.

Hi all,

I have received quite a few emails today from concerned residents. While I cannot comment on ongoing litigations, I want to make a few things clear.

I support our LGBTQIA+ community. Full stop. My faith teaches me that every single person deserves to be treated with dignity, and that every member of our community, especially the most vulnerable among us, deserves to know that they belong.

Denton is strongest when we choose neighborliness over division and hate.

Sincerely yours,

I am,

Nick Stevens
Denton City Council, District 2

I was honored to support Councilmember Villarreal’s two-minute pitch for our firefighters. Our fire department is second to none and deserves the very best. Thank you, Jordan!!

UPDATE: AI Data Center Moratorium

It’s no secret that Denton residents have asked us to slow down and put a moratorium on AI data centers. I listened and brought a proposal forward.

When I did so, I said I trusted the process and trusted my colleagues. Today, we took a major step forward. Council unanimously (5-0) agreed to move this forward and look at developing a policy on how we approach data center applications moving forward, including bringing forward a conversation on a data center moratorium.

Some critics have tried to dismiss this as a “symbolic gesture.” But, this isn’t symbolism. It’s what responsive government actually looks like.

Residents demanded action and we listened. It’s that simple.

Happy Pride Month, Denton! To our LGBTQIA+ community, you make our city stronger. While it goes without saying, you are loved and accepted by this city. You are loved and accepted by our neighbors. And you are loved and accepted by God, beautiful and good exactly as you are.

On Tuesday, city council will be having a work session to discuss homelessness initiatives in the city of Denton. This morning, I had the opportunity to visit Our Daily Bread, the community shelter in District 2, to learn more about the services that they provide. I look forward to continuing the conversation with our community, stakeholders, and council.
