☀️ HEAT ADVISORY EXTENDED ☀️

The Heat Advisory for portions of North and Central Texas has been extended through 8 PM tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15.

🥵 Heat index values could reach up to 108°F.

If you’ll be outside, take the heat seriously: drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade or A/C, and never leave children or pets in a vehicle.

Apparently, September did not get the memo that fall is coming. 🫠🍂

Heads Up, Denton County!

I-35, both North and Southbound, in the vicinity of Sanger and Valley View are currently closed due to an incident.

Traffic is backing up in both directions, expected time of clearance is unknown at this time. Please seek alternate routes.

☀️ September apparently forgot it’s supposed to be transitioning into fall.

Denton County is kicking off the week HOT, with temperatures around 100°F and heat index values potentially reaching 105–106°F in some areas. 🥵

The abnormal heat sticks around through the week, with highs gradually dropping into the upper 90s, which we’re apparently supposed to consider “cooling down” now.

🔥 Elevated fire danger will continue, especially west of I-35.
⛈️ A small chance for isolated storms returns later in the week.
💧 Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in a vehicle.

Basically, keep the pumpkin spice on standby and the sunscreen within reach. 🎃☀️

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, from 10 AM–2 PM at the Denton County Administrative Courthouse for a FREE day of preparedness, public safety, and family fun.

Explore emergency response vehicles and apparatus, educational booths, hands-on activities, games, food, and more! Meet the agencies and organizations that help keep our communities safe and learn how you can be better prepared for emergencies.

Bring the family, explore the equipment, learn something new, and get prepared!

Today, Denton County joins communities across our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

Twenty five years later, we continue to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

May we never forget those we lost, those who answered the call to serve, and the families who carry their memories forward.

Are you prepared for the unexpected? Join us for a Community Emergency Preparedness Workshop on Wednesday, September 9, from 11:00 AM–12:30 PM at the Denton County Administrative Courthouse.

Participants will learn about:

Local weather hazards
Home preparedness
Creating emergency and family plans
Building emergency kits
Community resources

The workshop will also include hands-on activities designed for families and a limited number of resilience kits for attendees.
