Congratulations to all the students of the District 2&3 Basic Firefighter Training for finishing with your Class A burn. Way to go Island firefighters, Bryan Jachowski, Callie Shahan and Jared Murphy.

We are at high fire danger because of the wind and dry surface fuels. The state is not issuing permit for today. If you have fire that you have been left going you need to put them out.

If you have any wood/brush cleanup you want to burn this spring you might want to do it soon. We are already starting to see elevated fire danger reports from the Forest Service. Yes it is still raining every other day but with the stronger warm winds things will dry out quickly. It is mostly surface fuels we are concerned with in the spring and even swampy areas have these fuels.
Permits are issued online only at https://apps1.web.maine.gov/burnpermit/public/index.html from 9am to midnight 7 days a week.

At our business meeting last night we recognized three retired Deer Isle firefighter that gave many years of service to the protection of our community. Many thanks to these three for their dedication. They will be missed.
It is time for the younger members to take over and carry on the traditions.

The Bonnie Billings Memorial Kids Lifetime License is the best prize we could possibly give! A lifetime fishing license prize was started by Bonnie, and now named in his honor, to encourage and promote fishing to the next generation.
We are going to handle this award the same as previous years, to encourage more youth to weigh fish. This year, each legal fish brought in by a kid 15 and under, regardless of species, size or weight, will be entered into a drawing for the lifetime license. Kids weigh-in is from 2-5pm on Saturday and Sunday, February 14 & 15.
We are looking forward to seeing all of the kids and their entries in this years Slim's Fishing Derby.
