Morgan County Democrats announce dates for 2026 candidate qualifying.

The Morgan County Democratic Executive Committee will open the candidate qualifying period for County Offices for the 2026 election cycle on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 9:00 am, in conjunction with qualifying for State Offices with the Alabama Democratic Party. County Candidates must qualify through the county committee and can request a candidate qualifying packet from Chair Kimberly Fasking by email at [email protected]

County Candidate positions up for election are:

Sheriff
Coroner
Commissioner of License
Commissioner of Revenue
County Commissioner District 1
County Commissioner District 2
Superintendent of Education
School Board Place 1
School Board Place 2
School Board Place 3
School Board Place 6
State Democratic Executive Committee - all places
County Executive Committee - all places

County candidates will contact the county party for qualification fees. State level candidates must qualify through the Alabama Democratic Party either in-person at the state party headquarters in Montgomery or online at aldemocrats.org. Instructions for how to complete the process may be found on the ADP website, aldemocrats.org.

Democratic candidates qualifying for county offices will close at noon on Friday, January 23, 2026. Democratic candidates qualifying for state offices will close on Friday, January, 23, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.

You are invited to our monthly meeting dinner on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Freight House Restaurant, 200 Railroad Street SW in Hartselle. We’ve reserved the private party room for the evening and will be providing some of the restaurant’s delicious desserts. You’re welcome to order your own dinner and drinks as well.

Please join us in supporting this wonderful local favorite. The Freight House has been generous and welcoming to our group, and we want to show them our appreciation.

OCTOBER BUSINESS MEETING CANCELED
Due to unforeseen circumstances our monthly business meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, has been canceled. Please make plans to attend and invite your family, friends, and neighbors to our next meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Decatur Entreprenurial Center, 1629 4th Avenue SE, Decatur.

We will continue to have an open invitation for any candidate who wishes to join us each month. If you are a candidate, please feel free to attend our November meeting and introduce yourselves to voters. We are also planning a candidate forum at the beginning of 2026.

—Alabama’s voter registration deadline for the 2024 general election is Monday, Oct. 21. That is the deadline both for new voters to register and for current voters to update their voting information if they have moved to another location within Alabama.

STATEMENT FROM KIMBERLY FASKING, CHAIRPERSON OF THE MORGAN COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY:

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have served our country over the past three-and-a-half years with confidence and dignity. This administration’s accomplishments are numerous, including enacting environmental protections, lowering healthcare costs, signing marriage equality into law, and successfully adding the first black woman to the Supreme Court.

Now, President Biden has made the difficult decision to step down. He has officially endorsed Vice President Harris, who is immensely qualified to continue the work she has already been integral in accomplishing. However, the final decision remains in the hands of the delegates, so we will all have to wait for their decision.

We are all Democrats, and we all want the Democratic nominee to win, no matter who that nominee is. We are fortunate to have so many talented, intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate people leading our party. This is going to be a challenging time, but if we work together and unite behind our democratic ideals and principles, we can and will succeed!
