Dear RESIDENTS of State house DISTRICT 3 -
I would be deeply honored to represent the concerns of constituents in Dearborn regarding peace. Suffering is our concern, where ever it occurs. While a state representative does not deal with matters of national foreign policy, yet the plight of Palestinians needs to be better understood. In extreme times, many will embrace a cause of nationalism, a kind of loyalty which is virtuous in itself, but can tempt us into seeing others as enemies, less-than-human, or even evil, justifying whatever happens to them. This is demeaning to ourselves and therefore we must not be seduced by one cause, however worthy, into violence against the innocent. Insofar as the Israeli response to provocation, responding to terror with greater terror, is disproportionate, it is morally wrong, and should not be supported by our policy or our rhetoric.
Some will say that Palestinians have elected leaders who support terrorism; some may say that terrorists shield themselves by embedding themselves in hospitals, schools, and other targets that should be off limits in war. However terrorists by nature intimidate civilians into cooperation. I have no easy military solutions as to how to deal with such situations, but we should not fail to recognize the tragic position of civilians living in war zones.
There are matters more directly the concern of the State legislature to which I aspire to be your representative:
1) I oppose government interreference in traditional families. Current practice which regards a minor as having interests over and against the family is dysfunctional, depriving children of accountability and discipline in the home. School instruction which present alternate genders and deny the connection between sexuality and procreation should not be tolerated in our schools. The duty of men and women to reserve sexual gratification for the commitment of marriage needs to be taught for the public good.
2) With respect to business regulations, I favor far fewer government regulations and requirements. These discourage business and initiative. Government attempts to subsidize the economy has the effect of making local communities dependent on government largess. Detroit's decades of failure stems in great part from the unintended effect of such well-intended policies.
I am proud to be a part of the Michigan Republican Party, a diverse organization reflecting many viewpoints and interests. I would count it a great honor to represent Dearborn's Arab and Middle Eastern community in the Michigan statehouse and in the Republican Party.
Please share my words with all who may take interest. It is a privilege to share them with you, Neighbors!
Peace be upon you,
Dr. Richard Zeile, Republican Candidate for State Representative, District 3.
