Dear 7th Ward Residents,
After careful reflection, I’ve made the decision not to seek a second term as your alderperson.
Serving the 7th Ward has been an incredible honor — one filled with learning, growth, and a deepened appreciation for the complexities of local government. I’m sincerely grateful to each of you who entrusted me with this responsibility. Representing our ward has shaped me into a more thoughtful and pragmatic leader, and it’s an experience I will always carry with pride.
While the city formally labels this position as “part-time,” the reality is that it requires a full-time level of attention, commitment, and emotional investment. The issues we face as a city — from infrastructure to policy decisions to neighborhood advocacy — demand deep engagement, critical thinking, and countless hours beyond what is seen publicly. I gave this role my all, and I walk away better for it.
I’ve decided not to run again because I believe my time, voice, and energy are now best served pursuing other political avenues where I can continue pushing for positive change. That said, I remain deeply invested in the future of Davenport and especially in the future of the 7th Ward.
As you consider who should step into this role next, I urge you to support a candidate who is level-headed, pragmatic, and driven not by emotion, but by what’s best for the greater good. Effective leadership in this seat means balancing compassion with strategy — and always keeping the broader needs of our community in focus.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving you. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and even more hopeful for what lies ahead.
With sincere gratitude,
Mhisho Lynch
7th Ward Alderwoman
