The Conasauga Judicial Circuit Superior Court will sign a proclamation recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day on Friday, June 5th, from 12:00pm to 12:30pm at the Whitfield County Courthouse, located at 205 N. Selvidge Street in Dalton.

Observed annually on the first Friday in June, National Gun Violence Awareness Day honors the lives of those affected by gun violence and raises awareness in communities across the country.

Community members are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear orange in recognition of the day.

Whitfield County Clerk of Superior Court Babs Bailey was recently recognized for completing the Superior Court Clerks’ Certification Program through the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

To earn certification, participants are required to complete eleven 6-hour courses, two 3-hour courses, and submit a final paper highlighting coursework completed through the program and how the information learned can be applied within their office.

The program is designed to provide continuing education and professional development for Superior Court Clerks across Georgia. To maintain certification, participants must complete annual update training and continuing education requirements each year.

On Friday, May 15th, the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of the new community center coming to Westside Park.

The community center will serve as the final addition to the county's recreation master plan and will include a large multipurpose room, office space, two gymnasiums, and an indoor walking track. Outdoor amenities will include a pavilion and playground area.

Construction is currently estimated to be completed in August 2027. Officials said they are excited to see the project progress and look forward to the impact the facility will have for years to come.
