Many died that day in September 2001 - Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were tragically taken, Many responded - hundreds of firefighters, police officers and medical personnel ran toward the towers, Many of the first responders - 412 responders died that day and 360 FDNY and thousands of first responders died of toxic illness , Many signed up, Many went for us - in the aftermath, a generation of service members stepped up to defend freedom, facing profound wounds and loss of life in the line of duty.
Our hearts are with the families of those lost, the service members still living with unseen wounds and catastrophic injuries. America is behind you, and those who earned a Purple Heart because of 9/11 should never be left behind.
