***CARROLLTON STORM DEBRIS REMOVAL UPDATE***
From the Tuesday, 6/25 briefing to Carrollton City Council:
Highlights:
Within the first 3 weeks the contractor was in our city, they had collected about 50% of the estimated 50,000 cubic yards(cy) of storm debris.
The contractor originally had four trucks with an 88cy capacity. That has been expanded to six trucks plus six 100cy trailers for a total fleet capacity of 1128cy.
The city originally directed all debris to the landfill and where the contractor, Crowder Gulf, aka Gulf Services, was forced to use the public lane as Republic Services would not permit them to use the private lane. The caused each dropoff to take an hour or so.
At the contractor's recommendation, the city setup intermediate dropoff sites at the Josey Ranch Lake park and at the closed school adjacent to Furneaux Creek on Frankford Rd. The JRL location has been closed.
In short, the city and contractor are now operating at their highest level yet with the contractor and Republic Services combining to remove almost 500 tons of material each day. At this pace, it is safe to assume that all areas will have received a first pass by 7/14, with the contractor then resurveying and making additional passes where needed, such as those pile blocked by bulk waste and/or vehicles.
It is also reasonable to assume that bulk trash pickup will resume after the middle of next month with the Crowder Gulf contractor assisting with the removal of the bulk trash that is separate from storm debris and/or those mixed piles. In all, the city will likely be 90-99% recovered by the end or July.
Based upon what was said during the Council briefing, the NW areas are likely to be last to be reached by the contractor.
Also, there are no plans to try and schedule and inform residents WHEN their street(s) might be serviced as there are too many variables that could effect the timing of the contractor reaching your street.
Please do review the included screenshots for additional detail on the scope of the storm damage relative to prior storms, the pace of the response, and also see the FAQs which I have included as the last image. Lastly, staff will not and Council typically does not engage on social media. Feel free to ask questions here and if I do not have the answer, I will try to get it. Also, thank you for your continued patience during this long process and especially to those that have shown kindness to our contractor who is doing their best in this oppressive heat. Thank you!
