📸 Monday Memories

In April and May, DeWitt, Lincoln, Price, Richardson, and Silver Lake Elementary Schools hosted Family Welcome Nights for students and families who will be attending a new elementary school next year as a result of the closure of Preston Elementary. These events provided an opportunity for families to meet their new principal and school secretary, learn about school procedures, and take a tour of their new building.

One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to be guided through the school by 5th grade student ambassadors. These student leaders warmly welcomed families and shared first-hand experiences about what it's like to be a student at their school.

Families also connected with school social workers to learn about resources that can help children and families navigate change, shared favorite memories of their school community, explored supports for multilingual families, learned about after-school programming and parent organizations, and visited with our friends from the Cuyahoga Falls Library.

This event was developed by our newly formed Community Empowerment Team (CET) as part of our strategic plan. The CET is focused on creating meaningful opportunities for families and the district to partner together in support of student and family success.

A special thank you to our student ambassadors and parent organizations at each school for providing refreshments and helping create a warm and welcoming experience for our families. Your kindness and support made a lasting impression.

💸 Finance Friday: The Hidden Tax Shift Impacting Cuyahoga Falls

Let’s be completely direct: decisions made by state legislators in Columbus are shifting the cost of public education directly onto your local property tax bill. This isn’t an accounting oversight—it is a choice.

Here is how the funding "shell game" hits our community:
🔄 The Formula Shell Game:
* Your Property & Income Values: Updated regularly by the state. Because values have risen, the state formula views Cuyahoga Falls as a "wealthier" community that can afford to pay more locally.
* Actual School Operating Costs: Frozen! The state is still calculating the cost of running a school using 2022 data, completely ignoring the real-world inflation we've experienced since then. (The national average for gas in January 2026 was $2.81 per gallon. Today, it’s $4.24.)

📉 The Local Result: When the state updates community wealth but freezes real school costs, the formula forces the state's share down and pushes the bill onto local taxpayers.
Look at the numbers projected for CFCSD:
* FY 2026: State funding covers 21.88% of our calculated base cost.
* FY 2027: State funding drops to 14.01%.
* FY 2028 and Beyond: The state's share plummets to the absolute legal minimum floor of 10%.

By 2028, the state will contribute just $822 per student to our district. This is happening despite the fact that 58% of our students are economically disadvantaged. Local property taxes are left to fill the financial gap the state leaves behind.

📢 TAKE ACTION: These numbers do not have to be our future. Our students cannot vote, but you can speak up for them. Contact your Ohio state representative and senator today. Tell them to fully update the formula and stop passing the state's bill to Cuyahoga Falls property owners.

🔍 Stay Tuned: Is it local overspending, or a systemic state-level shift? Next week, we track the 30-year chronology of legislative decisions in Columbus that reduced business tax contributions and left residential homeowners holding the bag.

📸 Monday Memories 📸

Throughout the school year, our staff captures thousands of photos that tell the story of learning, growth, and memorable moments across our schools. While only a small percentage make it to social media during the busy school year, we're excited to spend the summer looking back and sharing some of those special moments through our Monday Memories series.

This week, we're featuring DeWitt Elementary's fourth-grade students, who put their math skills to work in a delicious way! Students applied real-world measurement and fraction concepts while making and baking cupcakes in the Life Skills Room. As anyone who has accidentally mixed up ingredient measurements knows, baking is a perfect example of how math matters in everyday life.

Thankfully, these young bakers measured carefully and enjoyed the sweet results of their hard work!
