Update to smokey conditions in Houston County. Most of the county can see or smell smoke from the prescribed burn south of us.

Receiving numerous calls regarding smoke in the area of 287s. There is a 150 acre prescribed burn being conducted in Trinity County near Glendale. Currently the wind is out of the south bringing all of the smoke up through Houston County.

Houston County is still under a Burn Ban. However, waivers are available through a permitting process with our office.

Houston County Emergency Management continues to monitor the remnants of Edouard as they move through East Texas. While the system has weakened, heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding remain possible, especially in areas that receive repeated rain bands.

And with that, we have the 5th named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. NHC has upgraded TD 5 to Tropical Storm . Max sustained winds are 40 mph. The primary threat is heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding along and east of I-45 throughout Tuesday.
