Three members of VFW Post 1797 had the opportunity to attend the annual Vets on the Hill program held in Des Moines at the State Capitol building on Wed. 21 Jan 2026. Several speakers from state organizations, such as the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, the State National Guard, State Chair of the Veterans Affairs Commission, and ranking State legislators from the Democratic & Republican party. Many organizations that provide benefits and assistance to veterans also had tables with information regarding their services, such as DAV, AMVets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, etc.

A couple of photos as Post 1797 Jeep is ready to be the lead vehicle for Creston's Lighted Christmas Parade on Thurs. Dec. 4, 2025. Very cold weather kept many spectators from enjoying the lighted parade.

It's always a pleasure to be able to recognize a veteran's military service to our country. Today, myself and another VFW 1797 member traveled to Lamoni, IA to participate in an EveryStep Veterans Pinning event. We were honoring a 91 year old Army veteran who started as a Company Clerk, then ended up in the Army Band at Ft. Polk, LA. The veterans are presented a Veterans Flag Pin, a certificate, and a hand-made quilt with a patriotic theme.

The first evening for the newly dedicated flag pole and flag at the SWCC Ag Center & Truck Driving Center.

Earlier this past summer, a local motorcycle riders group made a significant donation to Creston's VFW Post 1797. As a result of this donation, Post 1797 was able to purchase 35' flag pole and flag to be installed at the Ag Center/Truck Driving Center of Southwestern Community College. A special thanks to the SWCC maintenance staff for their work in setting the pole and a special thanks to the SWCC carpentry/electrical students and instructors for doing the electrical work to have a lighted flag pole.

On this Veterans Day, 11 November 2025, members of VFW Post 1797 and other veterans had a busy day - breakfast at the Creston Eagles provided by Hy-Vee, program at Mayflower Christian Heritage school, program at Creston High School, lunch at the local Pizza Ranch as well as Subway, finishing with our Post Nov. meeting at the Creston Elks Lodge. The Creston community shows good support to all of the local veterans. A special thanks to the students & teachers at Mayflower Christian Heritage School and the students and teachers at Creston High School for organizing the programs on this Veterans Day.
