On May 8, 2026, at approximately 6:08 a.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division Narcotics Unit, in conjunction with the North Star Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force, executed a residential search warrant at 23245 NW Murdock Drive in Altha, Florida.

During the ex*****on of the warrant, deputies located multiple individuals inside the residence, including Monica Jane Willis, Larry Edward Rushin III, Kayla Leanne Burke, and multiple others. A small child was also present inside the home.

Prior to the search, Investigator Norris photographed and video recorded the residence. Investigators then conducted a systematic search of the property.

Inside the master bedroom identified as belonging to Monica Jane Willis, investigators located approximately 31.9 grams of suspected m**hamphetamine, multiple items of drug paraphernalia, digital scales, packaging materials commonly used for narcotics distribution, m**hamphetamine residue, and a quantity of Adderall pills not contained in a properly labeled prescription bottle.

Investigators also recovered a homemade water b**g containing liquid m**hamphetamine, glass smoking devices with m**hamphetamine residue, and additional narcotics-related items throughout the bedroom.

Deputies determined Larry Edward Rushin III had been residing at the residence. Rushin had previously been stopped on April 18, 2026, and found in possession of m**hamphetamine. During the search warrant operation, Rushin admitted to Deputy Jacobs that he had been living at the residence since that time.

In a children’s bedroom where Kayla Leanne Burke and her small child were sleeping, deputies located approximately 0.5 grams of m**hamphetamine on a nearby nightstand within reach of the child.

During the ex*****on of the search warrant, deputies also arrested Rashawn Devosla Dawson after he entered the active scene and became combative with law enforcement.

Despite repeated verbal commands from Investigator Norris and Deputy Jacobs to leave the area, Dawson continued advancing toward the residence and refused lawful orders. While deputies attempted to redirect him away from the scene, Dawson struck Deputy Jacobs in the forearm.

Dawson was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

As a result of the investigation, the following charges were filed:

🔹 Monica Jane Willis
• Trafficking in Methamphetamine
• Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell or Distribute
• Possession of a Controlled Substance (Adderall)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Maintaining a Drug Dwelling

“Today, we are mourning the loss of Officer Terranova, a member of our department who meant a great deal to all who knew and served alongside him,” said Chief Lawrence Revell. “This is a difficult time for our agency, and our focus is on supporting his family, friends, and our personnel as we work through this loss together. We ask our community to keep everyone affected in their thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.”

Our department is pulling together to support one another, and resources are being made available to every member of our TPD family. We ask for your prayers, for the family and everyone that knew him, and extend grace as we all navigate the days ahead.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, and the family of Deputy Steven Bruner. He will be greatly missed!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of our own, Deputy Steven Bruner.

Deputy Bruner worked tirelessly yesterday assisting with evacuations during the fire, putting the safety of others before himself. Shortly after his shift ended, he suffered a medical emergency.

To know Bruner was to love him. He was the kind of person who would step up to help anyone without a second thought. Selfless, dedicated, and truly one of a kind.

Our agency, along with many others, will deeply feel his loss.

Rest easy, Deputy Bruner. We have it from here. 💙
