When you are near your Rescue Truck with your set equipment that is great. When you are out in "no man's land" and limited on your equipment sometimes you have to think outside the box. This is why you train, not just from one class and one time to get your certificate, you keep training and learn more than just one way. The day that you think that you think that you can't learn anything new about being a first responder then you need to get out.
OMG! Is that a hand ascender as a mechanical advantage tractor? What in the world are we doing? Doesn’t this damage the rope? Lmao! Understand your tools. Understand how your tools ACTUALLY work. Don’t listen to anyone without researching yourself. Just because you learned something in your county or state fire academy, doesn’t mean that’s the only tool that can be used. The “fire way” is NOT the only way. In fact, rope rescue was established in our country over 80 years before the “fire way” came out. Gear fear is common and it’s toxic. Just because someone says they’ve been doing something for 25 years doesn’t mean that they’ve been doing it right. We hear this statement very often in our courses.
