Legal aid is free. If someone contacts you claiming to be from Lone Star Legal Aid and asks for money or your financial information, it's a scam. We're seeing scammers impersonating legal aid organizations through phone calls, text messages, emails, and fake websites. Don't let them take advantage of you. Read our blog to learn how to spot these scams, protect yourself, and safely connect with Lone Star Legal Aid for free legal help: https://www.lonestarlegal.org/news/2026/08/legal-aid-is-free-avoid-the-new-scam-charging-for-legal-services/

I spoke publicly because this issue can no longer be ignored.

Some children in the juvenile system cannot be released, not because they deserve detention, but because there is no parent, guardian, or responsible adult available to take them home.

These children are United States citizens. They are our children.

A child should not remain in detention simply because there is nowhere else to go. Detention is not a home. This gap in the law is real, and it must be addressed.
