Last month's Blue Brew Social was such a great time! Delicious pizza (and beer for those who want it) and awesome conversation with likeminded people. What could be better?

Our County Chair, Vice Chair, and current SDEC-31 committee member joined in last month for the fun. We truly love being able to hang out and have a good time as a community.

If you want to make it to the next one, mark your calendars for June 19th. Our first stop will be the Public Library for their Juneteenth Celebration from 6-7PM and then we'll head over to Nelson Brew Works afterward!

Find the Juneteenth Celebration event page here:

We want to express a heartfelt thank you to Maria Negrete, founder of the Negrete Firefighter Foundation INC, for speaking at our monthly meeting yesterday!

Their organization is a local nonprofit dedicated to raising scholarship funds for applicants to go to Firefighter Academy in honor of their son, Jose Negrete, a fallen Copperas Cove firefighter.

She shared several ways our members (and anyone in the community!) can help support their cause:

Attend their Bubba's Fundraising Event all day on July 11th:

Donate items for the Negrete Firefighter Foundation's 5th Annual Fundraising event, help to create auction item baskets from the donations, or volunteer the day of the event.

Attend, share, and invite all of your friends to come out to the Negrete Firefighter Foundation's 5th Annual Fundraising event! August 28th, 2026, 4-10PM at Texas A&M - Central Texas (inside this year!)

Maria Negrete with the Negrete Firefighter Foundation INC is joining us as our guest speaker this month.

This organization was established in memory of Maria's son, Jose Negrete, a courageous firefighter from Copperas Cove who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community.

As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, they are dedicated to honoring Jose's legacy by providing scholarships to individuals who aspire to join the firefighting profession but may face financial obstacles in doing so. These scholarships enable deserving candidates to attend the academy and pursue their dreams of becoming firefighters.

We invite you to join us on June 9, 2026 at 6:15PM for our Monthly Business Meeting to hear from Maria about this organization and how we can support them. The meeting will be held at the Business Education Center at 204 E. Robertson Ave (The old Chamber building.)

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ Happy Pride Month! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

This month, we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and honor the generations of advocates, activists, and everyday people who fought, and continue to fight, for equal rights, dignity, and opportunity for all.

Pride began as a movement for human rights. It remains a reminder that progress is made when people have the courage to stand up, speak out, and work together to build a more inclusive society.

We also want to recognize the LGBTQIA+ members and allies right here in Copperas Cove. Your contributions strengthen our schools, businesses, neighborhoods, places of worship, civic organizations, and families. You help make our community a better place for everyone.

In a community where visibility can sometimes require real courage, choosing to live openly and authentically is an act of bravery. We are grateful for those who continue to show up, support one another, and help create a more welcoming and compassionate Copperas Cove.

As Democrats, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to be themselves, the opportunity to thrive, and the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We are committed to doing our part to ensure that Copperas Cove is a community where everyone belongs.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity that makes our city stronger and recommit ourselves to the work of building a future where every person is valued, respected, and free.

Happy Pride Month! โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

As Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to honor the histories, cultures, resilience, and contributions of AANHPI communities.

These communities are an essential part of the fabric of the United States. Their cultures, labor, activism, military service, art, food, and traditions have shaped this country in countless ways for generations.

This month is not only about celebration. It is also about truth. Colonization has profoundly impacted Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, and many of those consequences are still being lived today. For example, Guรฅhan (Guam) remains a U.S. territory whose people serve, work, and contribute to this country while still lacking full voting representation in the federal government.

We must also acknowledge the reality of anti-Asian racism and xenophobia that AANHPI communities continue to face. From exclusion laws and internment to violence and discrimination today, these histories are part of the American story too. Honoring these communities means standing against hate in all its forms and ensuring every person is treated with dignity and respect.

As Democrats, we believe freedom and liberty should belong to everyone, not just in principle, but in practice. That means listening to communities whose voices have too often been ignored, learning histories that are rarely taught, and supporting representation, equity, and self-determination for all people.

We're sharing a few posts from local community members who speak powerfully about these experiences:

Joy Perez โ€” CHamoru perspectives and the experience of Guรฅhan/Guam (sharing the first post in the series)

We encourage everyone to listen, learn, and continue supporting AANHPI communities beyond this month.
