Many citizens have come to renew their tags, only to find a hold on their vehicle due to school zone fines. While these fines are completely beyond our office's control, here is some info that explains when the fines are assessed:

🏛 Under Georgia state law, automated school-zone camera enforcement is tied to operational times:

⏳️Operational Window: Cameras may operate starting 1 hour before the first morning school bell until 1 hour after the final afternoon dismissal bell.

🚦Reduced Speed Periods: During active arrival and dismissal times (when yellow beacons/lights flash), the lowered speed limit (typically 15–25 mph) applies.

🚗Middle of the School Day: When the lower flashers are off during the middle of the day, the normal posted street speed limit applies. However, cameras remain active and can capture drivers going >10 mph over the standard posted limit during those intervening school hours.

Please take heed, and let's slow down to keep our children as safe as possible while also avoiding speed fines.

While these infractions show up in our office's system, our team cannot process payments, resolve, or dispute them. These infractions are managed through RedSpeed.

System Outage Alert: Statewide DRIVES System Down

Good afternoon, everyone.

At this time, DRIVES—the statewide system used for processing motor vehicle transactions—is experiencing a temporary outage. Consequently, our office is currently unable to process any tag or title transactions.

Because this is a statewide issue, it is unfortunately beyond our local control. If your visit is not urgent, we strongly advise waiting until Monday to come to the tag office.

If the system is not back online by the close of business today, you have alternative renewal options:

-Online: Renew through the state portal.
-Kiosks: Use any tag kiosk tomorrow. If you are out of town, any participating tag kiosk across the State of Georgia can process your renewal.

Several Tax Commissioners from counties across Georgia are in town for our Tax Digest Submission class hosted by the Department of Revenue.

The Tax Digest is the listing of all taxable property values in a County. There are specific stipulations regarding how we submit it to the Department of Revenue so we can bill and collect property taxes.

Staying informed and updated is how we ensure the citizens receive what is needed from us.
