3.

Every year in central Ohio, 150 babies die before their first birthdays -- with black babies dying at 2.5 times the rate of white babies. CelebrateOne was created to carry out the eight recommendations of the Greater Columbus Infant Mortality Task Force to ensure that our community reaches the ambitious goal of reducing infant mortality by 40 percent and cutting the racial disparity gap in half ov

er the next five years. Infant mortality is the death of a child before they turn the age of one, and it is a measure of a community's health and social condition. The greatest gift our community can give to each baby is a healthy and safe first year of life that sets him or her on a path to thrive each year beyond that. To do so, CelebrateOne and its partners address the most significant factors that contribute to Columbus' high infant mortality rate:

1. Babies born too early and too small
2. Exposure to smoke during pregnancy and secondhand smoke in their early days of life
4. Birth defects
5. The health and safety of the neighborhoods in which we live, work, and play

CelebrateOne's Facebook, Twitter and website (www.CelebrateOne.Info) are here to be online resources for moms, moms-to-be, families, and all community members passionate about reducing infant mortality in Columbus. Every baby deserves to celebrate his or her first birthday. Together we can make a difference. Note:

We love seeing young storytellers using their voices to highlight important issues in our community.

Thank you to The Columbus Dispatch and Columbus Journalists in Training for this thoughtful piece on postpartum mental health, and to student journalist Ashley Gomez for taking the time to speak with us and share these stories with care and intention.

Conversations like this help break the silence and remind families that they’re not alone.

This National Public Health Week, we’re celebrating the power of partnership.

At CelebrateOne, our work is only possible because of the strong collaboration and shared commitment we have with our public health partners at Columbus Public Health and Franklin County Public Health. Together, we’re working to support families, improve birth outcomes, and create a healthier future for every baby in our community.

Columbus Public Health supports families through programs like safe sleep education, car seat safety, and connections to essential resources, helping ensure babies have a safe and healthy start.

Franklin County Public Health plays a critical role in advancing community health through data, research, and collaboration, helping guide efforts to better understand and address infant mortality and maternal health across our region.

We’re especially grateful for the leadership of Dr. Mysheika Roberts and Joe Mazzola, whose dedication to advancing public health continues to make a lasting impact across Central Ohio.

Public health is at its strongest when we work together, and we’re proud to stand alongside these partners in service to our community.

We’re excited to welcome two incredible leaders to the CelebrateOne Board of Directors: Tauana F. McDonald and Jeff Klingler.

Tauana McDonald serves as President and CEO of Mount Carmel Health System and brings decades of leadership experience in healthcare, along with a deep commitment to community service and advancing health equity. We’re also proud to celebrate Tauana on her recent recognition as a 2026 Women of Achievement Honoree by YWCA Columbus, an honor that reflects her impact and leadership across our community.

Jeff Klingler, President and CEO of the Central Ohio Hospital Council, brings extensive experience in healthcare policy and advocacy. Through his leadership, he has helped advance critical initiatives across our region, including efforts to improve infant mortality outcomes and strengthen systems of care for families.

Together, Tauana and Jeff bring invaluable expertise, vision, and passion to our mission. We’re honored to have them join our board as we continue working to ensure every baby in our community has the opportunity for a healthy start.

On Tuesday, we gathered at the Columbus Museum of Art for our Untold Stories live panel, an evening centered on truth, reflection, and the power of being heard.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, and to the courageous women who shared their stories of loss, survival, and resilience. Your voices help break silence, challenge stigma, and create space for others to feel seen and supported.

These stories don’t end here. They live on in the conversations we continue to have, the awareness we carry forward, and the ways we show up for families in our community. They remind us that behind every statistic is a real experience and that listening, empathy, and compassion can shape better outcomes for families.

Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing a full recording of the panel in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we invite you to read more about the event and the impact of Untold Stories on our website: https://celebrateone.org/blog/untoldevent

Before they were leaders, they were someone’s baby.

As we close out Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the little girls with dreams who grew into women with vision - leading big change so every baby in Columbus has the chance to thrive.

CelebrateOne is showing up - locally and nationally - to advocate for moms, babies, and families.

Our Executive Director, Danielle Tong, was in Washington, D.C. this week for the 2026 Federal March for Change Advocacy Summit, joining advocates from across the country to meet with members of Congress and push for critical maternal and infant health legislation.

Back home, our Deputy Director and CelebrateOne team members were at the Ohio March for Change earlier this week, connecting with state lawmakers, learning, sharing, and advocating.

From the Statehouse to Capitol Hill, we’re committed to elevating the voices of families and helping others learn how to advocate for change. When we speak up together, we can build a future where every mom and every baby has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Doula Directory is live!

We’ve created this new resource to help connect families with doulas offering support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Whether you’re exploring your options or ready to find the right fit, this is a great place to start.

As World Doula Week comes to an end, we’re celebrating the vital role doulas play in improving outcomes and supporting families every step of the way. Everyone deserves access to compassionate, knowledgeable care, and this is one way we’re helping make those connections easier.

Explore the Doula Directory: celebrateone.org/doula

If you’re a doula serving Franklin County and would like to be considered for inclusion in our directory, please reach out to our Senior Manager of Pregnancy and Perinatal Supports, Kadijah Torian, at [email protected]

We’re proud to spotlight the partners who help make this work possible.

Throughout the year, we’re highlighting organizations that collaborate with CelebrateOne to strengthen the systems and services families depend on, from health care to social services, early childhood supports, and beyond.

Today, we’re highlighting The Center for Healthy Families!

Through their program, Healthy Families Connection, they support pregnant and parenting youth with community and school-based services that help set families up for long-term stability - from healthy births and education to housing and workforce readiness. Their Healthy Families America home visiting program adds another layer of support, meeting families where they are to promote child well-being and prevent abuse and neglect.

We’re grateful to partner with organizations like The Center for Healthy Families who are helping build stronger, healthier futures for Columbus families every day.
