About Us

Kicks for Kids Worldwide United Soccer Association for Youth Inc. (WUSAY), a free soccer program, was founded in 1997 as an independent partnership program with the Columbus Crew professional soccer organization, providing free soccer tickets to local youth organizations. With Rev. Merv A. Brereton as founder and Head Coach, Kick for Kids WUSAY is endorsed by the Columbus Local Health Department - Near East Side Physical Fitness Sub-Committee, Mount Vernon Avenue District Improvement Association, Inc., Columbus City Schools, Northside Christian School, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Ohio State University, Columbus State Community College, Columbus Recreation and Parks, the Neighborhood House, Inc., and many other organizations.

WE DO IT THIS WAY in order to enhance health and wellness opportunities through free soccer programs, track and field sports. We give every child opportunities to participate in building a lasting relationship with their community and schools, to improve the well being and equality of life through education, and training to develop high standards, productivity and accountability.

OUR FOCUS is to create an environment that fosters positive growth for boys and girls ages 4-18 with family engagement programs. The program also offers mentoring, after school tutoring, physical training, health education and job behavioral awareness.

Currently the program is offering a variety of help to youth on the Near East, North, South and West Side of Columbus to reduce and prevent the fast growing health epidemics such as:

River Blindness • Obesity • Asthma • Diabetes • Youth Violence Prevention.

The Kicks for Kids WUSAY program values every youth, and ensures that trained coaches are on site at every field to implement effective academic models to youth. The program also conducts regular workshops to prevent youth violence, obesity and bullying while promoting community health and wellness, including healthy foods and healthy drinks.

We believe we can positively reach kids through soccer fundamentals and steer them clear of obstacles to a healthy childhood.

The Kicks for Kids WUSAY Inc. program is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.

CEO/DIRECTOR Rev. Merv A. Brereton Presides over the monthly meeting and ensures compliance with the pertinent regulations, policies and directives for Private Organizations.

SECRETARY

Records the proceedings of all meetings of the Steering Committee (SC) and ensures minutes are available to all members.

TREASURER

Maintains records of the activity of the K4KWUSA Fund and ensures the security of entrusted funds by depositing them in a local financial institution.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Establish various activity groups for the benefit of competitive games. Extending invitations and collaborations to other teams and corresponding with Media, Television and Clubs/Organizations locally and abroad.

REGISTRATION RECORDER

Record all the players by ages and location. Assist Human Services, Supervise families interviewing while steering them in adhering to policies and procedures.

FUND RAISING PR COMMITTEE

Committee that determines fund raising projects and reaching out to new sponsors.

NEWSLETTER EDITORS

Prepare monthly newsletter to keep the community informed of the activities, events and opportunities of interest to them. Research, Communicate and Coordinate distribution of Flyers and Posters.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Will be responsible for all the practices, uniforms, fields, bi-monthly reports, transport and housing for guests (brackets, referees, and time as well).

SPONSORSHIP COORDINATOR

Assists the K4K Sponsorship program by implementing and reviewing the welcome packet and recruiting volunteers as sponsors for the next year’s activities and prepare banners.

ENTERTAINMENT COORDINATOR

Provide entertainment as requested for game day and/or special occasions.
