Bitdeer is a cryptocurrency mining facility that is also expanding into data services. A tour of the operations in the Canton area was helpful in understanding how these facilities operate. I was surprised that the facility was running at full capacity, as we were walking past some of the support buildings and I didn’t hear a thing. It was only within about 100 feet that I could hear the buzzing of the cooling fans. Bitdeer’s investment in Ohio is another example of the state attracting new investment in data and technology infrastructure.

I appreciate Bitdeer offering this insight to those of us on the tour including Rep. Troy Balderson, Monroe County commissioners, and economic development professionals.

Attending the Council of State Governments Midwestern Legislative Conference was a good opportunity to connect with fellow legislators from the region, as well as learn about legislation and issues in other states.

In the energy committee I was pleased to be asked to provide an update, which led to a lengthy discussion of the energy policies and results in Ohio. Additionally, I was asked to provide insights on a workforce development panel hosted by Arnold Ventures.

Thank you to Representative Tom Murphy for the tour of the Minnesota State Capitol. Other Ohio legislators in attendance included State Representative Cindy Abrams and Representative Elgin Rogers.

Honored to join the powerful Welcome Home opening ceremony for The Wall That Heals at the Belmont County Fairgrounds. Thanks to many dedicated people, Belmont county is one of only 30 locations across the country the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall replica stops during America’s 250th celebration. The wall carries the names of more than 58,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of this country. The wall also serves as a long over due official Welcome Home for Vietnam veterans.

Admission is free and open 24 hours a day through October 4th. I encourage you to visit, pay your respects, and say welcome home.

It has been a busy few weeks getting out and about at some great community events across the district.

The Meigs County Fair was the place to be, despite the recent wet weather and muddy parking lots. It was a privilege to meet the smart and talented fair queen as she helped oversee everything from the full midway to the livestock judging.

The festive spirit at the Beverly Sweet Corn Festival could not be dampened by a couple of downpours. I was happy to put in some work as a corn roaster while still finding plenty of time to talk with some great folks from the area. I was also able to watch the two neighboring school districts compete in eating contests of watermelon and, of course, sweet corn.

The well-attended Belmont County Farm Bureau meeting provided some very good information, including a detailed presentation on property taxes that served as the keynote. It was well received and provided some valuable discussion. Catching up with the hardworking folks of Belmont County is always a great way to spend an evening.

The ribbon cutting at the Socrates site for the new Williams power generation plant was energizing, both literally and figuratively. This plant is a prime example of the results of HB 15 and Ohio’s commitment to being a leader in investment, development, and innovation. Its impressive timeline from concept to completion demonstrates that getting additional reliable power to industry and the grid is achievable.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity to speak with another federal cabinet member, Department of the Interior Secretary Burgum. The federal government’s commitment to the national energy picture, and its interest in learning from Ohio’s experience, was clear.

Meigs county has been impacted by recent back-to-back rainfall events. Nearly 7 inches of rain caused rapid flooding, to a level last seen in 1998. Townships, the county, the state, and many volunteers have all worked diligently to recover from the flooding to return to a level of normalcy. Thank you to the county engineers for spending time to show me impacted areas.

The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (Alma mater of Senator Dr. Terry Johnson) hosted legislators in their first “Doctor for the Day” event. The program was an outstanding overview of the medical school practical lab facilities and medical school philosophy. I was surprised to learn about the interconnection and combined activities of the multiple campuses to enhance the learning opportunities. The human body is amazingly complex, and I really appreciate the approach of looking at the system as a whole.

Thank you to the entire Heritage College group for an informative and fascinating day.

A Friday evening at the Jefferson County Township Trustees Corn Roast was time well spent. Great conversations with the hard-working folks of the county as well as companies committed to investing in the area. County Commissioners, local officials and the hard-working Terry Bell were all on hand to share their thoughts.

A tour of NetJets and FlightSafety was both fascinating and informative, offering a glimpse into the significant positive impact these organizations have on the local economy, an impact that many people may not fully appreciate. Headquartered in Columbus, NetJets employs approximately 9,000 people globally and is preparing for future growth as it expands its office space. Beyond its role in private aviation, NetJets is also a significant contributor to the broader travel and hospitality industries. From flight training to repositioning pilots, its operations generate substantial economic activity for commercial airlines, hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.

As NetJets is far more than private air travel (which I have never experienced), the Flight Safety organization is far more than just a safety certification. I was expecting a generic simulator to be programed to replicate various types of aircraft. However, each simulator is an exact replica of the aircraft the pilots are flying, down to every switch and light. Details matter in training and I am thankful for the many dedicated folks in this industry.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and all those who were affected by this attack.

I was honored to be included in the placing of 2,977 flags by the Ohio University College Republicans to memorialize this 25th anniversary.
