There was a time when Maddy would wake up early simply so she could start drinking earlier.

Today, the Heartland High School junior is looking toward a different future.

To recognize , ADAMH is sharing Maddy’s story and a closer look at how Heartland, Ohio’s only recovery-oriented high school, helps young people make recovery part of their everyday lives. Supported by ADAMH, Heartland gives students a place to learn, connect with peers and build a future in recovery.

We’re proud to share that Heartland High School was featured today by 10TV as part of The Big Picture and National Recovery Month.

One of our students stepped outside of her comfort zone to speak publicly about recovery and what being part of Heartland means to her. Being on camera and talking about recovery isn’t easy, and we’re proud of her for stepping up and representing Heartland.

Our 2nd Annual Heartland High School Golf Outing was one to remember!

Despite the rain, our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, friends, and supporters showed up for Heartland and we are incredibly grateful. Together, we raised more than $20,000 to support Heartland High School and the recovery-centered education and programming our students rely on.

That is what happens when a community comes together.

To every golfer who braved the weather, every volunteer who worked behind the scenes, and every sponsor who believed in our mission and invested in our students, THANK YOU. Your support does more than make an event possible. It helps us create opportunities, remove barriers, and continue walking alongside students as they work toward both recovery and graduation. We are so grateful for everyone who continues to believe in Heartland and the young people we serve.

And next year…we're hoping to order a little less rain! ☔️😂

Recovery is stronger when young people have the support they need to thrive.

Thanks to a $150,536 investment through our Regional Grant Cycle 1, Heartland High School's Heartland Alternative Peer Group & Outreach Program is helping more students build healthier, substance-free futures.

Since December 2024, Heartland has expanded outreach from just 4 schools to more than 28 school and community connections, opening the door to conversations about youth substance use that once rarely happened, and helping to grow student enrollment at Heartland.

At the same time, Heartland's Alternative Peer Group has provided a safe, supportive recovery community for adolescents and young adults, maintaining nearly 90% attendance while helping participants reduce substance use, strengthen positive peer relationships, and build lasting recovery.

This is what OneOhio investments are all about: empowering local organizations to expand access to prevention, treatment, and recovery support so more Ohioans can find hope and healing. 💚💙
