Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission in Ohio Ohio is committed to MIL Families and the Compact for Educational Opportunities for MIL Children.

The goal of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students. The Compact leverages consistency: It uses a comprehensive approach that provides a consistent policy in every school district and in every state that chooses to join. The Compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation. Children of active duty members of the uniformed services, National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders, commissioned officers of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Unites States Public Health Service (USPHS), and members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired for one year are eligible for assistance under the Compact.

🇺🇸⭐ Purple Star Best Practice Spotlight

Each year in Mercer County, the Patriot’s Pledge Ceremony honors graduating seniors from across the district who have chosen a path of military service by enlisting in the armed forces or earning acceptance to a United States military academy. The event is held as part of Military Signing Week. Family members, veterans, military representatives, educators, and community supporters gather to recognize these students' commitment, leadership, and willingness to serve.

The ceremony is made even more meaningful through remarks from distinguished military leaders and veterans, helping inspire the next generation while celebrating those who have answered the call to serve our nation. All 5 Mascoutah School District 19 schools have been named Inaugural Purple Star Schools!

We are incredibly proud and honored to announce that every single school in our District has been recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education on its inaugural list of Purple Star Schools!

Congratulations to Mascoutah Elementary School, Scott Elementary School, Wingate Elementary School, Mascoutah Middle School, and Mascoutah High School!

This designation celebrates our deep commitment to serving military-connected students and their families. From welcoming new arrivals to supporting students through deployments and transitions, we remain dedicated to building an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and at home.
