Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission in Ohio

Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission in Ohio Ohio is committed to MIL Families and the Compact for Educational Opportunities for MIL Children.

The goal of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students. The Compact leverages consistency: It uses a comprehensive approach that provides a consistent policy in every school district and in every state that chooses to join. The Compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families including enrollment, placement, a

ttendance, eligibility and graduation. Children of active duty members of the uniformed services, National Guard and Reserve on active duty orders, commissioned officers of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Unites States Public Health Service (USPHS), and members or veterans who are medically discharged or retired for one year are eligible for assistance under the Compact.

Throughout the school year, Ohio’s educators often teach and help connect their students to our state’s rich military history as well as the nearly 700,000 veterans that call Ohio home. Whether you want to double-check a historic fact, research one of our Ohio Hall of Fame veterans or just send a message to a resident at one of our two Ohio Veterans Homes, our ODVS School Toolkit is filled with useful links and information for students and teachers alike. Open it at dvs.ohio.gov/jobs-and-education/jobs-and-education-resources/odvs-school-toolkit .

Happy Father's Day!

Our thoughts today are with those who are unable to be with their loved ones while working to protect our freedoms. For your service and sacrifice, we thank you.

Ohio Loves our very own…

Congratulations to Indian Trail Elementary on earning its first Purple Star School designation for supporting military students and families!

Canal Wi******er High School and Canal Wi******er Middle School also renewed their designations this year, meaning all four Canal Wi******er Schools buildings are now Purple Star Schools.

Schools earn this recognition by meeting requirements focused on identifying and supporting military-connected students, including having a trained staff liaison in each building. At Canal Wi******er Schools, these liaisons help coordinate support and lead activities such as a military-connected student breakfast, Military Child Spirit Week, Veterans Day events, and a signing day for students entering the armed forces.
