ServeOhio empowers local communities to mobilize AmeriCorps and community volunteer resources to meet their most challenging needs.

ServeOhio is the state's Commission on Service and Volunteerism created to empower local communities to mobilize AmeriCorps members and volunteer resources for the purpose of building a stronger Ohio. ServeOhio is authorized under section 121.40 of the Ohio Revised Code and is purposed specifically to administer grants in Ohio under the federal National & Community Service Trust Act of 1993. Through collaborations and partnerships with nonprofit, government, and community organizations across the state, ServeOhio increases the effective utilization of AmeriCorps members and community volunteers working to address the state's frontline issues in education, health, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship.

Today, we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11th, a day of deep loss, reflection, and resilience. As we honor the lives lost, we also remember the extraordinary spirit of service that emerged in the days that followed.
In the wake of 9/11, people from every community stepped up - neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers supporting first responders, and individuals choosing compassion in the face of tragedy. That commitment to serving others continues to define who we are and why our work matters.
Service connects us. It strengthens our communities, reminds us that we are not alone, and shows that even in the hardest moments, we can build hope together. On this anniversary, we reaffirm our dedication to bringing people together, supporting one another, and creating lasting change through service.

What's in a Name? AmeriCorps Member vs. AmeriCorps Volunteer.
ServeOhio is shifting away from using the term AmeriCorps Member to AmeriCorps Volunteer when referencing individuals serving in our AmeriCorps programs. This is challenging — we have utilized the term member since our inception 33 years ago. The change by the AmeriCorps Agency is intended to simplify messaging and align with the other national service programs (AmeriCorps Seniors and VISTA). By utilizing common language, we are more easily able to communicate program objectives and impact across the service streams to stakeholders. While the language may be changing, the impact is not. ServeOhio is proud to support the thousands of AmeriCorps Volunteers (past, present and future) that serve in local communities every day to improve the lives of all Ohioans.

We welcomed students on their first day of an exciting new school year. City Year AmeriCorps Volunteers support students and improve school culture in every school they serve. Have a great year!

Great news for Ohio! 🎉
ServeOhio is investing $10 million in AmeriCorps grants to support 740 AmeriCorps Volunteers serving across our state in 2026–27. These AmeriCorps Volunteers will provide more than 800,000 hours of service to help meet locally identified needs in education, healthy futures, and environmental stewardship. Their impact will strengthen communities in every corner of Ohio. We're proud to see this continued commitment to service and to the AmeriCorps Volunteers who make such a difference every day! 💙🌟

Funding can help with supplies and materials for community projects that improve local assets like parks, schools, gardens, and senior centers. Eligible applicants include Ohio nonprofits and public organizations. Applications are due August 14, 2026. This week, ServeOhio welcomed Ohio AmeriCorps program staff from across the state for two energizing days of Starting Strong Orientation - kicking off the 2026–27 AmeriCorps Program Year with momentum and purpose.
This year, ServeOhio will support 17 AmeriCorps programs empowering 740 dedicated AmeriCorps Volunteers to deliver nearly 1 million hours of service to Ohio communities.
It was an inspiring start, and we’re excited for a powerful year of impact ahead!
