23 Years Later

Two Soldiers. One bond forged through service.

More than two decades after first serving together, the pair reunited as Davidson was honored for heroic actions during a 2009 ambush in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, where, despite being wounded, he provided covering fire to ensure the safe evacuation of his team and a wounded interpreter.

The photos, taken roughly 23 years apart, reflect the lasting bonds formed through military service and sacrifice.

From Service to Success 🎓

Congratulations to Judah Musacchio of the Ohio Army National Guard and Staff Sgts. Bailey Richey, Brandon Warburton and Keaton Smith of the Ohio Air National Guard on graduating from Bowling Green State University this semester. The four Guardsmen were among 23 Ohio National Guard members who earned degrees this semester while using the Ohio National Guard Scholarship to support their education and military service commitments.

The OHNGSP helps Soldiers and Airmen pursue higher education while continuing to serve their state and nation, creating opportunities for academic, professional and military success.

Soldiers from the 107th Cavalry learn to control their new “steel mounts” at Fort Ord, Calif., as the unit was in the midst of conversion from horse to mechanized; In Through the Lens, Springfield-based Ohio Air National Guard units enlist their first two female members in May 1972; in Week in Review, Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 107th Cavalry Regiment is organized in Greenville in May 1951, marking 75 years of service this year; and Hall of Valor honors Capt. William Henry Ward of the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the Siege of Vicksburg, Miss. on May 3, 1863.

Honoring Ohio’s Heroes

Congratulations to the newest Ohio National Guard inductees into the 2026 Ohio Military Hall of Fame, Capt. Roderick J. MacEachen (posthumously) and retired Sgt. 1st Class Larry Davidson.

MacEachen was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action near Ipil, Philippines in June 1945 while serving with the 37th Infantry Division, where he disabled enemy demolition charges under fire and led attacks that destroyed enemy positions and forces.

Davidson, who served with the 112th Engineer Battalion and Company B, 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), distinguished himself through heroic actions during a 2009 ambush in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, where, despite being wounded, he provided covering fire to ensure the safe evacuation of his team and a wounded interpreter.

Their courage, selfless service and unwavering commitment to their fellow Soldiers represent the very best of the Ohio National Guard.
